Supermarkets were getting popular but little independently owned neighborhood grocery stores "Mom & Pop" stores were still very much around and most everyone still shopped at them !

And when McDonald's looked like this !

..professional tennis players used to stand at the side of the court during break, not be cosseted with chairs, child slaves bringing them towels, other superfluous paraphernalia or shouting obscenities at referees.
