Breaking News:
--Gen-TV Axes "Boston Blues", Plus "Promise" returning

Gen-TV has announced two huge pieces of news today, the first is sad news. Gen-TV has officially cancelled "Boston Blues", the sophomore police drama lost nearly 70% of its audience season-to-season and despite a small rebound in the last three months it was simply "too little, too late" said Gen-TV Vice President Amy Fung-Wilson. "Season two will be the final season of Boston Blues" she announced "It has been cancelled and will not be returning next season."

Debuting in 2018 with a cast that included James Van Der Beek and Poppy Montgomery, the series was an instant smash and won numerous awards that season. However ratings for the series were down at the start of season two and despite some rebound, it wasn't enough to save the show.

Now, for other more positive news Gen-TV is officially confirming the buzzy news that beloved daytime soap opera "Promise of Tomorrow" will return to Gen-TV in 2020! The popular daytime soap aired on Gen-TV from 2014 through 2016 and produced over three thousand episodes and won the Harper Everett Award (what is now the Best of TV Award) every year it was on. It also won the Daytime Emmy for Best Drama Series every year it was on. The series was a instant success, becoming the first daytime soap in history to knock "Young & Restless" out of the #1 spot and was a solid success. However, the exit of creator Maria Arena Bell from the show in 2016 resulted in unpopular storylines and the loss of key characters. Viewers tuned out in droves and the show was cancelled in 2016.

Gen-TV President Margo Danbury said "Since it left the air we have been getting thousand upon thousand of letters, emails and social media messages begging us to bring back Promise of Tomorrow and we've decided now is the right time." "It is the only soap opera we've ever aired that became a cultural success and impacted viewers lives in a big way." "We are proud to announce the return of Promise of Tomorrow for Fall 2020!"

Details about casting haven't been announced just yet nor is there any word on if creator Maria Arena Bell will return or not.

THE HOLLYWOOD INSIDER

YTN RENEWS "MOTHER & DAUGHTER" FOR THREE SEASONS - WILL CONCLUDE ITS RUN IN MAY 2023
YTN announced that Mother & Daughter, the longest running comedy in network history, will extend its historic run by three additional seasons. The three season order will bring the show to 12 seasons, and will amass somewhere around 311 episodes. YTN confirmed the next two seasons will contain 26 episodes each, but have not yet confirmed the episode order for season 12.

In announcing the three season order, YTN also confirmed the show will conclude its run in May 2023 - after airing its twelfth season.

The YTN President says, "Mother & Daughter debuted in the fall of 2011, and was one of the first comedies to air on our network. We are excited to add at least 70 episodes to its run by the end of 2023. Everyone on the cast and crew is thrilled to get back to work for the next three years and wrap this phenomenal show up with an incredible ending."

Gen-TV News:
---Bell Not Returning, Soap Vet In

Just two days after announcing the return of "Promise of Tomorrow" for Gen-TV Daytime comes word from Gen-TV's President Margo Danbury that series creator Maria Arena Bell , who also served as Executive Producer for most of the shows original run will not be returning to the series. "Maria has decided she is not interested in going back into the daily grind of running Promise of Tomorrow; and will only serve as a consultant whose brain we pick from time to time."

Instead, the day to day operations of the show is going to be handled by soap opera vetera Sally Sussman Morina whose daytime credits include "The Young & Restless", "Days of Our Lives", "Another World", "Generations" and MTV's "Spyder Games". She has also written for "Knots Landing" and the short-lived 1992 Fox soap opera "Freshmen Dorm". Her most recent credit is serving as Executive Producer and Co-Head Writer of "Y&R" from 2016-2017. She was chosen from a pool of industry heavyweights all with decades of experience, but was picked because according to Danbury "Sally brought some very clever and fresh ideas to the table, and seemed to have the best pitch for how to revive this show."

She will serve as Executive Producer on the reboot of "Promise of Tomorrow" and will also get a credit as Co-Head Writer. Joining her in the writers room will be industry veterans Michele Val Jean ("General Hospital", "The Bold & Beautiful"), Christopher Whitesell ("As The World Turns", "Days of Our Lives", "Another World", "One Life To Live", and more) and Jean Passanante ("GH", "Y&R", "OLTL", "AW", "AMC" and "ATWT").

Val Jean will serve as Co-Head Writer alongside Sally Sussman Morina, while Passante will serve as Breakdown Writer and Whitesell will serve as Associate Head Writer. Whitesell will also serve as Senior Supervising Producer.

For the directing team, Gen-TV has hired acclaimed soap directors Gary Tomlin, Larry Carpenter and Francesca James to rotate directing episodes of the show. Between them they have nearly five decades of credits under their belt spanning across nearly every soap opera in modern times.

The reboot of "Promise of Tomorrow" will debut in the fall of 2020. Since leaving the air in 2016, Gen-TV briefly aired a web version of the show that were 15-20 minute segments and featured non-linear stories unrelated to the series proper. "fans have been relentless in their passion for bringing this series back to Gen-TV." "We decided the time was right to listen."

Casting is currently underway and no information is available for that at the moment. Sources within Gen-TV however are hinting that the cast will include more than a few fan favorites as well as several new characters.

Making It Work
--Series To End In 2020

It's Official, the longest-running comedy currently airing on Gen-TV, "Making It Work" will air its final episodes in the 2019-2020 season, as it will complete its run following its seventh season. Still a top-performing comedy and a critical darling, the show was given a three-season renewal back in 2017, which covered its fifth, sixth and seventh seasons. The series returns in September of 2018 for its sixth season, and it will complete its run the following fall.

The announcement was made by Eva Vargas, Gen-TV's President who said "We have decided that now is the perfect time to announce an end-game for one of our top-performing and most beloved comedies of all-time." "It makes sense to allow this program to go out while it is still a solid performer and still beloved by audiences."

However, the end of the series in 2020 doesn't mean the end of the franchise all-together, as the network is also announcing plans for a spin-off called "Moving Up" which will debut sometime between 2019 and 2020. Details on that proposed spin-off are unclear at this time, but most likely will involve one or more of the supporting cast members moving into a new relationship or new chapter of their life. One thing we know for sure, according to Vargas "Making It Work will absolutely not end with Rashida and Justin's characters getting a divorce, or with one of them dying." "The talented creative team behind this show worked too long and too hard getting America to fall in love with this couple so seeing them split up is not a priority for anybody."
Spin-off Update for "Making It Work"
--Gen-TV News

For over a year now, Gen-TV has been in various stages of development on a spin-off of "Making It Work" called "Moving Up" and sources close to Gen-TV are telling Hollywood Insider that "essentially the proposed spin-off is dead in the water." "Nobody at Gen-TV can seem to agree on a premise for the spin-off or potential casting choices." "Production on Making It Work has been finished for months now, so there is simply no realistic way to even introduce a spin-off at this point."

"Unless there is a miracle, it is unlikely the proposed spin-off will ever become a thing." Gen-TV Executive Amy Fung-Wilson (Vice President) says "Moving Up is not currently in active development and it doesn't look very likely we'll see that show come to be at all."

Daytime Renewal & Cancellation News
---Gen-TV Cancels signaturen news show

As they say "all good things must come to an end someday" and apparently today is that day for Gen-TV's signature news show "Nightcap" which will end its historic run on Gen-TV in September 2020. The series debuted in 2015 featuring ABC news correspondent Gio Benitez and was an instant hit for its "quick, witty and to the point rundown of the week's top news stories, told in an informative and youthful way." The series was aimed squarely at the younger demographic (ages 17-25) and "was a way to get young people engaged in the news." It quickly became Gen-TV daytime's strongest series and a consistent performer both in the ratings and at yearly award shows where it regularly swept news categories.

The exit of Benitez from the show in 2019 generated a firestorm of press who questioned the shows ability to continue without him. He was replaced by ABC news veterans Dan Harris and Elizabeth Vargas, and they were joined by a rotating group of "youth correspondents" who were supposed deliver news stories that young people were interested in. The concept and change of premise didn't deliver anything new and viewers weren't impressed. Ratings fell consistently from its 2018 highs and the show is now being cancelled.

"Nightcap" will conclude its historic run in September of 2020.

Gen-TV has also cancelled reality-news show "The Download with Keith Olbermann" which "has seen a sharp decrease in pivotal 18-49 ratings and an even sharper decrease in critical support." This show debuted in 2018 and will conclude its run in September 2020.

Also getting the axe is struggling children's sitcom "Fish Out Of Water", a import from primetime where it aired from 2017-2018 before moving to daytime last year. The series was a star performer in primetime, but has netted only modest returns in daytime. Sources tell us "Fish Out Of Water has simply run its course and will conclude at the end of he season in May."

They join already-cancelled daytime talk show "Jenny & Sherri".

The news is much happier and better for the remainder of Gen-TV's daytime programming, "Magic School", "Head of Household", "Mouthy Broads", "Hot Flashes" and "3Girls2Gays" all of which are being renewed for next season.

THE HOLLYWOOD INSIDER

YTN RE-UPS GEN-TV CONTRACT WITH BIG ORDERS
YTN re-upped its contract with GEN-TV this morning, renewing most of the current series that are airing on YTN as part of the deal between the two networks.

As part of the deal, YTN and GEN-TV agreed to two+ seasons for many of the series, including Asset Protection, Life after Prison, Moving Down, Nowhere to be Found, and Traders. The only series not to get an extension between the two networks are Second Chance (which is ending this summer), and UpSelling (which already has three seasons waiting to air, including one this summer).

Airing on Saturday nights, comedies Asset Protection and Moving Down have been renewed for their fourth, fifth, and sixth seasons. Each season will consist of 22 episodes, bringing each of the series to 132 episodes through six seasons. The third season for both comedies will begin next week. Insiders are mum on exact details for their renewals, but we hear YTN is paying a bit more than they did for the first three seasons. Even with that increase, the deal is said to be one of the best in television, coming in at a fraction of the cost of typical YTN fare. With ratings averaging around 0.2 A18-49 on Saturday nights, YTN is making a profit on both series.

The other series currently airing on Saturday nights, Nowhere to be Found, scored a three season renewal as well. The series has performed pretty well for Saturday, averaging around a 0.4 A18-49. In the midst of its third season, the fourth season is set to air sometime this summer. YTN and GEN-TV agreed to a deal for a fifth, sixth, and seventh season. The series is among the costliest for YTN, but is again considered a massive deal for original programming. With the renewal, Nowhere to be Found is the longest running series as part of the YTN/GEN-TV pact in terms of episodes (153).

While it has not been on the air since December 2018, Traders was renewed for a third and fourth season, both of 16 episodes. The second season is set to air sometime this summer, with production on the upcoming seasons beginning sometime in late 2020. Insiders tell us YTN is paying around $1.7 million dollars per episode for the series, which is again, a steal compared to most YTN original series.

Finally, Life after Prison will also get to its sixth season, with a two season renewal (its fourth season is set to air this summer). YTN and GEN-TV also agreed to a third season of spin-off Life after Prison: War on Drugs. No word yet on episode counts for either of the series in the franchise.

Sunday, January 19:

Gen-TV's second Sunday of 2020 was a decidedly less impressive outing than a week prior. Nearly every series was down in total viewers, and some in demos. "Served" lost a significant portion of its total viewers, dropping down to 6.4 million viewers, and dropped to a 1.6 in demos. "American Heroes" also dropped in demos to a 5.4 and also lost a huge portion of its total audience.

"Making It Work" was down slightly in demos, but otherwise solid. "Roomies" was down in total viewers but was up in demos. "Baker's Dozen" was basically solid week to week.

8pm: Making It Work (New): 21.3 million/11.4 (11.42) 18-49

830: Roomies (New): 17.54 million/6.7 (6.76) 18-49

9: Baker's Dozen (New): 16.3 million/6.1 (6.13) 18-49

930: Seved (New): 6.4 million/1.6 (1.62) 18-49

10: American Heroes (New): 12.1 million/5.4 (5.42) 18-49

------------

Monday, January 20:

The second Monday of 2020 for Gen-TV proved to be a real winner. "Stuck in the Middle" was up in both total viewers and demos, proving to be a surprise success. "Unemployed" was the only cause for concern with a drop in both demos and total viewers. "Grounded" was up in both demos and total viewers (but still is likely on the bubble for next season). "Our Pet Dragon" was down in demos and total viewers, but still it posted a 12.7 in demos. "Grand Jury" was another surprise success, posting gains in demos and total viewers in excess of 25% each.

8pm: Stuck In The Middle (New): 13.1 million/3.6 (3.69) 18-49

830: Unemployed (New): 13.1 million/2.4 (2.41) 18-49

10: Grand Jury (New): 24.1 million/13.9 (13.9) 18-49

----------

Tuesday, January 21:

With the exception of "CIA: New York" which declined week to week, Gen-TV's Tuesday night was strong. "Feds" improved upon its debut a week earlier and "Deadly Visions" also increased over last week.

8pm: CIA: New York (New): 20.87 million/15.8 (15.83) 18-49

9pm: Feds (New): 20.8 million/9.7 (9.75) 18-49

Wednesday, January 22:

All of the series on Gen-TV's Wednesday were down week to week; both in total viewers and also in demos. The most startling drop was "Every Other Weekend" which dropped to a 2.1 in demos (a series low). "Bless Your Heart" also dropped in demos to a 15.1, a bit of a cause for worry.

8pm: Bless Your Heart (New): 23.2 million/15.1 (15.13) 18-49

830: The Boss Lady (New): 12.1 million/4.4 (4.46) 18-49

Thursday, January 23:

Gen-TV's Thursday was a mixed bag, while the majority of the shows were down week to week; all were basically on-par with their normal averages. "Kate & Ali" and "Ready To Wear" are basically tied in demos.

8pm: Ready To Wear (New): 24.6 million/20.1 (20.16) 18-49

830: Kate & Ali (New): 27.2 million/20.1 (20.14) 18-49

Friday, January 24:

Gen-TV's Friday night was another big success. "Having Faith" was up in demos to a 18.3 and "7th Heaven" with a 15.5 was also up in demos. "Switching Places" posted a 6.3 in demos, which is a slight increase.

8pm: 7th Heaven (New): 23.4 million/15.5 (15.54) 18-49

9pm: Having Faith (New): 32 million/`18.3 (18.32) 18-49

10: Switching Places (New): 15.4 million/6.3 (6.38) 18-49

-------------

Saturday, January 25:

While "Fugitive Recovery" and "The Border Police" were down in total viewers and demos, both still posted more than respectable numbers. "Boston Blues" defied the odds and is steady week to week.

8pm: Fugitive Recovery (New): 40.2 million/19.2 (19.23) 18-49

9pm: The Border Police (New): 54.2 million/27.2 (27.21) 18-49

Gen-TV Programming Notes:

Starting Sunday, January 26th and ending on Sunday, February 9th, Gen-TV programming is on a planned hiatus. Original programming will return Sunday, February 9th. Ratings for the week of Sunday, February 9th will be posted the following week (sometime after February 22nd).
Gen-TV Ratings:

Week of Saturday, February 9-Sunday, February 15, 2020:

Sunday, February 9:

Gen-TV has some problems on Sunday nights, but "Baker's Dozen" is not one of them. The sophomore sitcom continues its impressive reign with a 15% growth week to week in demos. "Roomies" is solid week to week, losing only 2.5% in demos. "Making It Work" continues to impress in its final batch of episodes, posting a solid week to week demo. "Served" is a big issue for Gen-TV as the freshmen comedy (which has already been cancelled) posted significant losses with a .91 in demos. "American Heroes" lost viewers as well, with a 4.1 in demos.

8pm: Making It Work (New): 18.2 million/12.8 (12.38) 18-49

830: Roomies (New): 16.7 million/6.5 (6.56) 18-49

9: Baker's Dozen (New): 18.3 million/7.0 (7.01) 18-49

Monday, February 10:

Gen-TV's otherwise solid Monday night had only one issue and that was "Unemployed" continuing to drop unexpectedly in demos. The show posted a 1.1 in demos this week (down from 2.4) a week ago. All other shows were solid, with "Grand Jury" even showing marginal growth in demos.

8pm: Stuck In The Middle (New): 12.6 million/4.3 (4.35) 18-49

830: Unemployed (New): 10.1 million/1.1 (1.13) 18-49

9: Grounded (New): 12.4 million/4.9 (4.93) 18-49

930: Our Pet Dragon (New): 29.2 million/12.9 (12.93) 18-49

10: Grand Jury (New): 19.3 million/14.3 (14.32) 18-49

----------

Tuesday, February 11:

Gen-TV's Tuesday programming were all on-par with expectations. "CIA: New York" rebounded in demos and "Feds" was up in demos. "Deadly Visions" was down slightly in demos, but well within expectations.

8pm: CIA: New York (New): 18.5 million/16.6 (16.63) 18-49

9pm: Feds (New): 21.3 million/10.3 (10.38) 18-49

10: Deadly Visions (New): 25.6 million/13.8 (13.83) 18-49

Wednesday, February 12:

Gen-TV's strong comedy lineup were all winners this week with "Cafe Oddity" just slightly edging out "Bless Your Heart" for the #1 slot this week. Both shows were up week to week in demos. "The Boss Lady" and "Every Other Weekend" were also up in demos. "Celebrity Cooking Battles" was solid week to week.

8pm: Bless Your Heart (New): 22.1 million/14.8 (14.84) 18-49

830: The Boss Lady (New): 11.2 million/4.7 (4.73) 18-49

-------------------

Thursday, February 13:

Gen-TV's usually dominant Thursday line-up had some troubles this week, with all series down in demos; but still posting strong enough numbers for a win over other networks.

8pm: Ready To Wear (New): 20.1 million/18.2 (18.23) 18-49

830: Kate & Ali (New): 24.2 million/17.3 (17.38) 18-49

10: Discography (New): 15.8 million/5.5 (5.58) 18-49

----------------------

Friday, February 14:

Gen-TV's Friday programming were all successes; each show posted growth in key demos and retained more than 75% of its audience week to week.

8pm: 7th Heaven (New): 24.5 million/15.8 (15.87) 18-49

9pm: Having Faith (New): 29.3 million/`18.8 (18.84) 18-49

10: Switching Places (New): 14.2 million/6.9 (6.95) 18-49

---------

Saturday, February 15:

Gen-TV aired an alternative version of their schedule this week, moving "Boston Blues" to 9pm and pushing "The Border Police" to 10pm. Sadly, "Boston Blues" ratings did not improve and fell in demos by 44% over last week. "Fugitive Recovery" and "The Border Police" continue to dominate.

8pm: Fugitive Recovery (New): 38.5 million/20.3 (20.32) 18-49

9pm: Boston Blues (New): 14.2 million/9.4 (9.43) 18-49

Default Gen-TV Halts Production of three shows

Urgent News:
Coronavirus hits Gen-TV

Production on three Gen-TV series has been shut down due to coronavirus. A spokesperson for the network has confirmed that they have halted production on three different series due to concerns over the coronavirus. They said "A crew member on the reality series Discography has tested positive for the virus and as a result we have shut down production on that show for an undetermined amount of time." "We will be following established CDC protocol as well as our own internal decontamination policies to disinfect and sanitize the soundstage where this program records." "All crew members and the hosts of this show are being tested and the appropriate people are being quarantined." "The crew member in question had recently traveled overseas and was exposed to the virus on-board an international flight home last month."

Production on two other series has also been shut down "7th Heaven" and "Feds" both had a cast member test positive for the virus and as such production on both shows is being suspended until "Gen-TV has determined that there remains no risk of infection on those sets."

The good news for Gen-TV is that nearly all three shows were close to the end of their production cycle anyway, so the number of episodes that will be effected is minimal. "7th Heaven was only two episodes away from completing its season, "Feds" was one episode away" and "Discography had completed the majority of its episodes as well, having only two left to finish production on." "The discography episodes left to finish were to feature The Jonas Brothers in one episode and Mariah Carey in another." "Both episodes will likely be reschedule for next season, if scheduling allows."

"7th Heaven producers are still contemplating how to address this issue on-screen." "Feds is likely to just skip the two episodes all-together."

A source as Gen-TV says "we will be providing timely updates when they are available and are hoping for the safety of all our crew and cast members."

In terms of Gen-TV's original programs, "The Special Classroom" returns to Gen-TV after nearly a year and a half off-air due to licensing issues.

Gen-TV News:
--The Special Classroom Returning

Hit pre-school series "The Special Classroom" will return to the air for the first time in a year and a half after Gen-TV finally resolved some licensing issues with the series. The original plan was for the show to return in January as part of a revised daytime schedule, but that schedule was ultimately abandoned in favor of a different schedule of programming. Gen-TV's Vice President Amy Fung-Wilson explains "We ultimately had to use a different version of our daytime schedule than we had originally announced in January. We had to postpone our planned return of The Special Classroom as we worked to clear up several licensing and legal issues involving the rights to that series." "Now that we've cleared those up the show and its backlog of original episodes will return in April 2020 as part of a dramatically altered schedule.

The other exciting news we have for our April 2020 schedule is the planned launch of our first ever late-night lineup of programming." More information on the late night line-up is forthcoming, but sources at Gen-TV tell us that "it is expansive plans and is the networks first serious attempt at breaking into late-night."

Breaking News:
Gen-TV Stops Production

Gen-TV has halted production on ALL series for an indefinite amount of time, as concern over the coronavirus grows deeper throughout the nation.

The decision was made by a unanimous vote of the board of directors and was announced by Ross Chin, President of the board who said "out of an abundance of caution we have decided to stop production on all Gen-TV Studios programming until further notice. We care deeply about our communities and are doing our part to ensure a proper and safe environment for all." "Following industry standards is one way to do so, but we've opted to go above and beyond by suspending production on all our series until further notice." "We will be keeping the public updated frequently with information regarding when we will resume production." "We feel that the spread of this virus is becoming too dangerous for us to justify continuing production and risking our crew, cast and executive staff." "The health and safety of our community is our top priority."

This puts a damper on Gen-TV's season to an extent, but the network does have a stockpile of episodes available for many shows so the impact on viewers should be minimal. Most series at Gen-TV Network only had 1-2 episodes left to film anyway. The real problem is for series produced by Gen-TV Studios but airing on other networks, many of those are filmed only a week in advance. Most of those shows will just not air for the time being.

Furthermore, Gen-TV announced they are NOT following other networks like ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX by postponing their planned UpFront presentation in May. Chin explains "Instead we are holding our UpFront Presentation as an exclusive online event that will be streamed online from Gen-TV Studios directly to reporters, journalists and other industry insiders." "The event will be massively scaled down from our normal presentation and will not feature a live audience or any performances from celebrities." "Cast members will not be present in person and only certain pre-filmed pieces will air." "We will simply announce our Fall 2020 TV schedule for the press and that is it."

"Once the virus is more under control and the danger is limited then we will hold a huge party to celebrate later this summer or in the fall."

The date of this alternate presentation is not yet available.

Breaking News:
--Gen-TV Press Report

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the country, Gen-TV Executives held a online only press conference for journalists, streaming it online from Gen-TV headquarters so that there was no need to gather a crowd together. They explained why they have pulled all original programming from the air saying "In an effort to preserve the ability to resume our season at some point when this pandemic is under control or completed." "Production of course has shut down on all of our programming and reruns of current and classic programming will air around the clock, with the exception of occasional news briefs from the staff at Nightcap."

"Gen-TV's pilot seasons is effectively shut down until further notice and will not resume until production has resumed within the industry." "However, our UpFront Presentation will still go ahead as planned in an online only format in which our Fall schedule will be announced to reporters via a live webstream." "We will not be gathering a crowd at all. Instead it will be a straightforward and streamlined web stream." "The date of that is still pending."
