The 2020 Best of TV Awards are coming soon. Honoring the absolute best that television had to offer in 2019, this years ceremony will be held in New York City at the historic Madison Square Garden. The iconic sports and concert arena will be transformed into a glorious Hollywood Awards show!

This year the ceremony is being hosted by ten iconic television personalities; each presenting different sections of the show: Courteney Cox ("Friends") will host the "Comedy" portion of the show; in which awards on the comedy categories will be presented. Anthony Edwards ("ER"), Claire Danes ("Homeland") and Jill Hennessy ("Law & Order", "Crossing Jordan") will host the "Drama" portion of the show, which presents the awards in the drama series categories. Presenting the "Reality & Unscripted" portion of the evening; in which awards are given out for reality series, news programs and other unscripted programming will be Veteran Journalist Meredith Vieira ("The Today Show", "The View"), noted reality show host Jeff Probst ("Survivor") and morning show, reality host and actor Mario Lopez ("Extra", "Access Hollywood" and "Saved By The Bell").

Presenting the "Limited Series, Movie & Mini-Series" categories will be Julianna Margulies ("The Good Wife", "ER"), Maggie Gyllenhaal ("An Honourable Woman"; Gen-TV's "The Ambassador General") and Zachary Quinto ("Heroes").

The ceremony will take place on Sunday, February 16th, 2020 and this year will be broadcast on Gen-TV Network and Starz. In the USA and Mexico it will also air in Spanish on Telemundo. In Canada, it will air on both Gen-TV Canada (in English) and on Unis TV (in French). It will air in the UK on SkyTV.

The Creative & Technical portion of the ceremony (honoring trade, crafts and non-creative categories) will be presented on Saturday, February 15th and will be streamed online at Stream-Me. Portions of that ceremony will be shown on the main ceremony as well. During the main ceremony on Sunday a recap of these awards will be presented by Connie Britton ("Dirty John", "Nashville") and Michael Ealy ("Stumptown").

A new feature this year will be the first ever Best of TV Lifetime Achievement Awards for Performance and Series. The Performance Award, given to a Iconic and Legendary TV Performer is being given to Betty White ("The Mary Tyler Moore Show", "The Golden Girls" and "Hot In Cleveland." While, the Series Award; given to an iconic and legendary series is being given to "E.R."

For the series award presentation, Gen-TV is reuniting select cast members from the series fifteen year run. Confirmed to be attending are Noah Wyle, Julianna Margulies, Sherry Stringfield, Gloria Reuben, Laura Innes, Alex Kingston, Eriq Lasalle, Maura Tierney, David Lyons, John Stamos, William H Macy, Mariska Hargitay. And no, so far, George Clooney has not been confirmed. A Gen-TV spokesperson says "We are working tirelessly to round up as many ER cast members as we can, but so far George has not been available to attend the ceremony."

The Best of TV Awards honors all of the best television programming from the previous calendar year. Any program that aired at least five episodes in the year 2019 is eligible to compete. Nominations will be announced later this month.

Nominations for this prestigious award, which unlike other awards bodies is happy to honor broadcast TV are competitive and in recent years Gen-TV has been the leader in terms of nominations and wins.

Among the top series most likely to earn Gen-TV nominations this year are "Border Patrol", "Fugitive Recovery", "American Citizen", "Ready to Wear", "Kate & Ali" and "Bless Your Heart."
A Hollywood Now Report:

Competition Heating Up

Rival networks Gen-TV and YTN are in fierce competition for the 2020 Best of TV Awards. Along with fellow broadcasters like CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox and the CW, these two networks dominate the Best of TV Awards in a way that cable and streaming service do not. "Gen-TV has lead nominations and wins at the Best of TV Awards (or BOTA's) for the last four seasons." "and YTN is always very closely behind." "Unlike the Emmy's or Golden Globes, this is one award show that prefers to award traditional broadcasting series and is built upon appealling to the masses."

The two networks seem to be taking very different strategies in terms of submissions, and it's going to be a very interesting race to see which of the two networks will come out on top. Sources within the industry predict that YTN will emerge with the most wins, but that Gen-TV will lead nominations. "Gen-TV's strategy this year, like previous years is to submit as many possible contenders as they can in every category; presumably to give them an edge over other networks." "YTN on the other hand makes selective submissions in a handful of key categories; hoping to rise to the top on merits alone." "They actually skip the acting races all-together, concentrating instead on the series races." "It's an interesting concept, but will put them at a deficit in terms of nominations." "It could help them win a few key races, but won't allow them to lead the nominations like Gen-TV will."

That said, Hollywood Now can exclusively release the full list of the submissions for both networks, in all the competitive series categories, with the exception of the Awards of Merit and Life Achievement Awards which are juried prizes and announced later. Acting submissions will be announced at a later date, as they go through a different process.

Best Drama Series

YTN:

TAKEN - YTN has submitted their popular and long running procedural drama about abductions for consideration.

CIA Files - Also being considered is another popular procedural drama about a group within the CIA who investigate the most gruesome crimes in the country.

Virus - Serial post-apocalyptic drama about a group of survivors following a deadly virus across the globe. This series is considered by many to be YTN's flagship series and perhaps the one most likely to score awards nominations.

Revolution- Another YTN entry is this serial drama about the USA following the second American Revolution.

LAPD Unit 7 - Also being considered is this procedural drama about a unit of officers in the LAPD.

Day in the Life - Another potential top contender is this serial drama about a man who has the ability to live inside the body of any other human for one day.

Newsflash - A new contender this year is "Newsflash", a drama about Parker Douglas, who is the editor of the Boston Beacon and looks to bring the latest news to the city in a social media society. Her team of close companions, in Charles, Meredith, Oscar, and Gwen, help lead the charge of dodging fake news

Hollywood Now's thoughts: YTN has some strong submissions here and submitted wisely. They are clearly putting their best efforts forward.

Gen-TV:

Fugitive Recovery-- Among the most popular series on television, this revival of a past Gen-TV favorite has emerged as a strong ratings winner and critical darling. It has earned Gen-TV some of the highest ratings its ever had. This drama combines comedy, drama and action as it focuses on an FBI Task Force hunting down wanted fugitives on the run from law enforcement.

The Border Police--This timely and acclaimed revival only gets more relevant which each passing day. It is a critical darling and a ratings winner, among the top rated shows on TV. This drama follows the lives of border patrol agents and ICE agents in the immigration wars of America.

Boston Blues---The critical consensus is that Gen-TV's acclaimed police drama is a shoo-in to win major awards this year, despite an obvious downtick in ratings. This drama follows the personal and professional lives of Boston police officers and their families.

Deadly Visions-- Still highly rated and well regarded among critics, this psychic-solves-crimes drama is a strong contender for top awards.

Degree of Guilt---This acclaimed drama stars Ryan Phillippe and Riz Ahmed in a political conspiracy thriller. It is acclaimed and its second season earned strong ratings.

Love Affair--- This critically acclaimed and long-running anthology series came to an end in 2019 with its final season. This romance-themed series focuses on love affairs turned tragic. The final season was divided into two separate sections with different storylines. The first half of the season, directed by Ava Duvernay focused on an interracial love affair between a white politician and the black wife of his political rival in 1960's Texas. The second half focused on the tragic love affair between two nuns in a 1960's convent.

The Hardest Goodbye-- This critically beloved anthology program focused its 2019 season on the drug epidemic in America and featured stories of people losing loved ones to addiction.

Atlanta Medical-- A new entry this season, this medical drama captivated viewers in summer of 2019.

Trauma Center---The final season of Gen-TV's landmark medical drama concluded in 2019.

Maria's Quinceanera---This limited run series focused on the family dramas that come forward in preparation for 15 year old Maria's quinceanera.

Grand Jury--A new crime procedural focused on lawyers trying cases before a Grand Jury. It is among the highest-rated new series of 2019.

CIA: New York--A brand new crime drama focused on agents at the NYC office of the CIA.

American Citizen--The acclaimed anthology series focused on racial issues had a strong third season focused on police violence against minorities.

Having Faith--The #1 rated new drama on TV this spiritual series has connected with viewers in a big way. It is focused on a female reverend named Faith returning to her church and her hometown to start anew.

7th Heaven-A reboot of the 1990's drama of the same name focuses on a female minister and her family trying to find themselves in today's violate
world.

If Hillary Had Won--This ambitious mini-series focused on the political climate of the world as it could have been if Hillary Clinton had won the 2016 Election instead of Donald Trump.

Hollywood Now's Thoughts: Gen-TV has a wide slate of programs to choose from and submitted both their best efforts and some clunkers. Though popular "7th Heaven" has no place on this list. "Degree of Guilt" has largely been forgotten by the industry and "If Hillary Had Won" was a huge misfire. "Blue Bloods" is fading from memory as well each week. Gen-TV wisely chose not to submit "Medical Center" a huge dud and oddly chose to include "Atlanta Medical" and "Trauma Center" which have no place on this list.

Best Comedy Series:

YTN:

Mother & Daughter - Long-running multi-camera comedy about a mother & daughter who live together.

College - This reboot of a classic YTN series is now in its second season and follows the lives of four friends from the original College series.

Blended - This is a rare example of a successful and acclaimed multi-camera comedy and it focuses on a blended family.

Life Lessons - This popular multi-camera comedy about two married teachers and their family.

High Times of Denver -Another contender is this single-camera comedy about friends who operate a marijuana dispensary in Denver.

Soccer Stories - Single-camera comedy about three families and their interactions with their children's soccer team.

Sanchez's in the Suburbs - Multi-camera comedy about a Latino family.

Grandparents - Freshman multi-camera comedy about grandparents raising their four grandchildren after an accident kills their parents. This acclaimed comedy has risen above its standard premise and become something special.

The Agency - Freshman single-camera comedy about a travel agency in Central Ohio.

Hollywood Now's Thoughts: YTN made all the right submissions here, including signature series "High Times of Denver", "College" and "Life Lessons." We'll see if it helps them secure some needed wins.

Gen-TV:

Making It Work-- Gen-TV's longest-running comedy is coming to an end after its 7th season and is in the running for the top comedy prize. This comedy focused on a married couple attempting to keep their relationship afloat despite the interference of their meddling families, who focus on their differences instead of what keeps them together.

Cafe Oddity--This popular comedy focuses on three best friends in their middle ages who are running an American themed diner in the middle of Texas.

Ready To Wear- This absurdist comedy focuses on a upscale boutique owner forced to sell her struggling store to a chain thrift store and the culture clash that occurs when she is forced to work for a zany, quirky new boss who is the opposite of her.

Kate & Ali-- This critically acclaimed comedy is a reboot of the 1980's single mother comedy "Kate & Allie" and focuses on single parents of color dealing with all the issues that people of color face today. Written by Keegan-Michael Key (who co-stars) it focuses on a African-American Muslim single father and an Indian-American Lesbian single mother as they share an apartment and attempt to raise their children to be decent, caring and loving people.

Grounded- This comedy focuses on a pilot who has been placed on mandatory retirement and is attempts to reconnect with his family.

Every Other Weekend--This divorced parents comedy focuses on things from the kids perspective as they spend "every other weekend" visiting either their mother or their father.

Unemployed---This comedy focuses on three men in their 20's and 30's facing every day unemployed and struggling to make ends meet.

Our Pet Dragon-- This family comedy transitioned into a successful stoner-comedy with adult themes and has become a breakout success.

The Boss Lady-- Starring Comedy Icon Kristen Wiig this comedy focuses on an abrasive and abusive woman who is faking her way through a new job after a case of mistaken identity puts her into the bosses office.

Selling Out---This comedy series focuses on a housewife who makes a deal with her new boss, who happens to be the actual devil.

Baker's Dozen--This romance comedy shifted premises in its second season and now focuses on the romance between two gay men.

Bless Your Heart--This fish out of water comedy focuses on a brash northerner from the Bronx who marries into a wealthy southern family.

Hollywood Now's Thoughts: Gen-TV has a lot of great comedies, but they also have a lot of sitcoms that don't belong competing for award shows. They wisely decided to forego submitting series like "Zendaya" or "Hart of Family" in place of acclaimed series like "Selling Out", "Kate & Ali" and "Cafe Oddity."

Best Reality or Unscripted Series

YTN:

Money Mountain - Game show with a chance to win $1 million.

The Neighborhood - Families have the chance to win a brand new home in a random neighborhood in the United States.

Adventure of a Lifetime - Reality series with various competitions across the globe.

Hollywood Now's Thoughts: YTN isn't likely to be a big contender in the unscripted races, but ther is always a chance for surprises. Their best chance is "Adventure of a Lifetime" which has all the hallmarks of the kind of series beloved at the BOTA's.

Gen-TV:

Celebrity Cooking Battles--This cooking competition featuring celebrity contestants has been a massive hit for Gen-TV.

Climb The Pyramid--The popular game show features contestants vying to win the top prize in a trivia contest.

Family Court--This syndicated court show focuses on judges as they try to put together families in crisis.

Climb The Pyramid: Family Edition--A second version of the popular franchise featuring gameplay designed for families and young viewers to watch together, and featuring contestants made up of families.

Hollywood Now's Thoughts: Gen-TV is likely the network to beat in the unscripted categories, along with A&E and HBO they have the best chance of dominating these awards. "Family Court" is a tough show to beat, especially with its change this year towards putting families together again.

Best News or Documentary Program

YTN:

Life After Prison - GEN-TV produced series following prisoners after their release.

Hollywood Now's Thoughts: This show presents a great chance for YTN to win in unscripted, although it is bittersweet for them as this show is produced by Gen-TV.

Gen-TV:

The Download with Keith Olbermann-- This daily news show features short segments on the top news stories of the day.

Nightcap- Gen-TV's flagship news program shifted its focus in 2019 to include stories about younger viewers.

Mouthy Broads--A talk show that includes a panel of hosts who are all comedians.

Hot Flashes--This talk show features a panel of hosts over the age of 60 dealing with issues important to their age range. Sponsored by the AARP.

3Girls2Gays-This chat show features a panel of three gay women and two gay men discussing issues relevant to their lives.

Soapless: Life After Daytime: This docudrama focuses on the lives of soap opera actors after they've left daytime TV or their series were cancelled.

American Loser--This documentary series focuses on the rise to prominence of Donald Trump widely viewed by many as the worst President in American history.

High School Diaries: Freshmen Year- The flagship entry in Gen-TV's reality franchise featuring real life high schoolers as they deal with the realities of everyday life in America.

High School Diaries: Sophomore Year--The second installment of this popular franchise.

Without Borders--Focused on doctors working in third world countries, this docudrama puts viewers on the frontlines of the real medical action around the globe.

Hollywood Now's Thoughts: This is probably the toughest category to win in and is typically dominated by PBS, Gen-TV and HBO. I think the shows to beat here are "Without Borders", which is a difficult show to bear and "American Loser" if politics is on the mind of voters.

Best New Program

YTN:

The Agency
Grandparents
Newsflash

Hollywood Now's Thoughts: "Newsflash" is probably YTN's strongest bet in this category, but they'll have a hard time competing against Gen-TV's huge list of submissions.

Gen-TV:

Atlanta Medical
Very Single Virginia
Capitol Hill
Maria's Quinceanera
Grand Jury
Medical Center
CIA: New York
American Loser
Having Faith
7th Heaven
Bless Your Heart
If Hillary Had Won
Breaking Blue
Summer Share
Summer Heat: The Resort
Mouthy Broads
3Girls2Gays
Hot Flashes
Jenny & Sherri

Hollywood Now's Thoughts: The show to beat in this category is "Having Faith" which is proving a popular choice this award season. Another strong bet is "Grand Jury." Some of the submissions here don't belong on this list. There is nobody who will be voting for duds like "Summer Share" or "Summer Heat: The Resort."

Default Gen-TV at the TCA's

Gen-TV TCA 2020 Panel
--Hollywood Now Highlights TCA Panel 2020

Hollywood Now presents highlights from the 2020 Winter Press Tour. Today we're discussing Gen-TV Studios panel from the TCA's. The TCA's are the Television Critics Association Press Tour, an annual press event in which television studios discuss their programming lineups, business goals and other issues for television critics and journalists.

The topic of conversation at the Gen-TV panel was the upcoming February board of directors election for President. Despite a splashy campaign, Eva Varga's bid for President has been a bit of a non-starter, and she's falling far behind in the polls from where she should be. Benny Portman is way out in front right now, polling triple digits higher than second place Ross Chin. Considering her high profile and her legal victory earlier this year when she was released from prison and had her entire conviction overturned. Vargas, who is reportedly just days away from filing a huge wrongful conviction lawsuit against the state of California and the United States Government should be polling better, but is stuck in fourth place, with only Dylan Garrettson polling lower.

When asked why they think Eva isn't doing better, Gen-TV's current Vice President Amy Fung-Wilson said "I think people just find it hard to trust Eva. Even though her conviction was overturned she ultimately proved herself to be a rat by turning state's evidence and I think people at Gen-TV find that distasteful." Margo Danbury, the current President of Gen-TV Studios said this "I can't explain it, but we have a bevy of talented candidates running for Board President and I think they'd all be an excellent choice."

Speaking of Danbury, she spoke at length about her plans for Gen-TV in 2020 (and beyond), and those plans largely include increasing development not only for Gen-TV Network proper, but for Gen-TV's syndication & distribution arm; a field that has been lagging in recent years. "We've developed a number of shows for YTN and some other cable networks (such as 1-2-3 Cook which moved to TLC from A&E; and Upselling and Life After Prison for YTN, plus several others) but it is time to greatly increase the number of programming we produce for first run syndication and to be distributed to other outlets." "In the past first-run programming for non-Gen TV outlets accounted for nearly 38% of our business, but from 2016 to 2019 it accounted for only 14%."

Among the ideas she has to increase that number include "a return to the popular game show market which was very lucrative for us in the past." "We have multiple high profile titles in the works that could become huge successes for us." "One such title is a TV version of the popular mobile game Ring of Trivia" Danbury says "The app is hugely popular with an estimated 3.2 million active users." "We have been working on acquiring the development rights for a TV version since 2017 and we will have some big news to announce about that in the coming weeks."

Two of the biggest series Gen-TV Studios ever produced were game shows; "Clue" and "Perfection" which ran for nearly a decade each and are among the 25 most profitable shows the studio has ever produced. They both spawned numerous spin-off's including the uber-popular Primetime versions "Extreme Clue" and "Extreme Perfection." Revival's of both series have also been in active discussions with the network.

Danbury also plans to continue developing new programming for Stream-Me, the Gen-TV owned streaming service which was relaunched this past fall and has been going through a rough patch. In 2019 it fell from the #3 most-used streaming service in the US to #7. Worldwide it fell from #4 to #20. Several new series were launched (and several more to come) with mixed results, but none that became out of the box instant successes. "We're still attempting to find the right mix of programming to make Stream-Me a dominant force."

Daytime Television is also a point of interest for Danbury who says "We're looking to give our daytime programming a huge facelift." The first half of that goal was met earlier this fall when we launched our pre-school and elementary programming block of sitcoms including primetime transplants "Magic School", "Fish out of Water" and "Head of Household" which moved to daytime and are performing well above expectations. Particularly "Magic School" continues to be a point of pride for Gen-TV. Danbury says "taking that formula and expanding it is among my goals for this year and giving it some new energy as well." One possibility she mentioned is creating a children's programming block for saturday or sunday mornings. "We have several programming ideas in mind including the return of "The Special Classroom" which was originally intended to move to daytime this past fall but was held-back due to liscenings issues. "That show will be back very soon as those licensing issues have been cleared up." "An announcement on that is coming soon."

Talk shows used to be the bread and butter of Gen-TV's daytime schedule, but in recent years they have lost traction as no new talk show that has debuted since 2015 has become a long-term success. "We haven't really looked into developing new talk shows as they have been a bit of a sore topic for us." "But we are encouraged by the numbers we're seeing for "Mouthy Broads" and "Hot Flashes." so we'll see." One genre that Gen-TV isn't investing any money or time on right now is soap operas; "that is a non-issue for us as we haven't had any success in that area. Unless we found a rock solid script that would be a surefire hit we wouldn't even consider a new soap opera."

Moving onto primetime, the biggest cause for concern right now, at least according to Danbury is "finding a way to save Boston Blues." The police drama debuted last season (2018-2019) to rock solid reviews and incredible numbers (in season one it averaged over 25 million viewers per episode); but those numbers dropped in season two (dropping to an average of 14.3 million per episode) and the once luminous reviews have also faded; with critics calling season two "tedious, a bore and devoid of redeeming quality." Margo Danbury says "It is among our top priorities to fix Boston Blues; to restore its critical reputation and renew viewer interest in what is an incredible series with franchise opportunity." "We have been searching for months and are thisclose to securing a top-level talent to take over as showrunner and to implement a plan of injecting new life into the series." "Fan are going to be blown away when they see what is in store for this show." "So, nobody needs to worry the show is still a big priority for us and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon." "However there is likely to be some big casting changes upcoming as the series evolves."

Another show in the process of evolving albeit with far less fanfare is "Medical Center" which isn't even present on the new midseason schedule (being displaced by a new drama called Feds.) This show debuted in September to lukewarm ratings and sup-par reviews. It was pulled from the schedule in October and was present on the first draft of the mid-season schedule but was pulled from that in November. Sources at the time said the show was being retooled; and indeed star Patricia Richardson was fired and Megan Fox was hired to headline a rebooted cast. But since November we've heard nothing more about it since. "We're still working on a new path for this show that will help us find an audience for it. But creatively we haven't found it yet." "At this time it remains a priority for us and all I can say is that Megan Fox is still attached to the series." "We have no information on a possible return date."

Several returning favorites still remain on the bench, but not for long. Fung-Wilson says that "Degree of Guilt" will be present on the April schedule revision, as will returning reality franchise "High School Diaries" while the sixth season of "Celebrity Cooking Battles" will likely not air until Summer 2020. Long-rumored mini-series "American Family" (a spin-off of "American Citizen") has been scrapped all-together, and despite this "we're still looking for a project to collaborate with Laura Linney on."

Editor's Note:

We mistakenly misidentified the fired star of "Medical Center" as Patricia Heaton. The fired star is actually Patricia Richardson. We apologize for the confusion and have corrected it in the above article.

Tonight's episode of CBC is Knock'em Out Charlie Brown which revolves around his time as a bare knuckle brawler while working as a merchant marine.

THE HOLLYWOOD INSIDER

YTN AT THE TCA'S
Here's some of what happened with YTN's panel at the TCA's this week...

RENEWALS: CIA FILES, COLLEGE, AND MORE!
YTN has renewed eight series for the 2020-2021 television season, including two freshman comedies.

The network announced it would proceed with a sixth season of its number two drama, CIA Files. While the show is down from its heights of season two and three (like most shows on television), CIA Files still averages a robust 12.47 million viewers and 1.7 A18-49 in L+SD. It will return for 26 episodes next season, confirmed by the President of YTN.

YTN also confirmed that hit reboot comedy College will return for its third season. The network was mum on a number of episodes, and even if the series will return in the fall. They said, "Goal number one is to find a time when we can get everyone together to film. Everyone is coming back, but we're working with the cast to make fit it in with their other projects."

YTN Vice President Donna MacKenzie told the crowd, "At this point, we're not even sure if it will be ready for the fall. It's all contingent on the cast coming together. We're not going to rush the product to fill a timeslot. If they all need more time, we are definitely going to accommodate them."

The network is also moving forward with additional seasons of freshman comedies Grandparents, and in a bit of a early surprise, single-camera comedy The Agency. YTN did not confirm episode orders for either show, and announced they'd likely be known at the upfront presentation.

Grandparents has been a break-out hit, averaging a 1.29 A18-49 in L+SD, tied for third highest on the network. The Agency has struggled a bit (averaging 0.7001 A18-49 L+SD) but has been a favorite of network executives from the beginning.

"We absolutely love The Agency. Its real, its hilarious, its a typical story for many people. We cannot wait to let it flourish and see whats there. Viewers are going to start finding this gem."

Returning for its eighth season next year is Full Time Mom. The tentpole Thursday night comedy has held up fairly well this season, averaging 1.31 A18-49. It moved from its long-time Wednesday home this season.

YTN rounded out its renewals with sophomore comedy hits Sanchez's in the Suburbs, Parkway Motel, and second-year drama LAPD Unit 7.

WHAT ABOUT AVA & LIAM?
The weird story of Ava and Liam continues to be a major topic of discussion among critics. First ordered in March 2018, the show was set to debut in January 2019. It was later held off until the Fall 2019 season, surprisingly renewed for a second season in the process, and scheduled behind YTN's number one comedy.

After flopping two episodes into its run, YTN pulled Ava and Liam from its timeslot. The network says it will "Return at a later time."

When pressed on the question, YTN President said, "We still believe in Ava and Liam. We're figuring out how to best make it work for us, but we believe in it. You will see more of Ava and Liam soon."

VIRUS
YTN's number one show was left out of the early renewals, but executives say don't worry! VP Donna MacKenzie says, "Virus is in the process of negotiations, so we cannot comment too much on its prospects. We want it back, and we're getting there."

Default Gen-TV Renews Four Series

Gen-TV News
--Network Renews Four Series

On the heels of setting a record with 79 Best of TV Award Nominations, Gen-TV has renewed four strong series for the 2020-2021 TV season. First up, sitcoms "Ready To Wear" and "Kate & Ali" have been renewed for third seasons. Both series earned five nominations at this year's Best of TV Awards; including nominations for "Best Comedy Series", "Best Actress-Comedy" and "Best Writing-Comedy."

Both series have earned strong ratings throughout their second seasons and continue to rank in the top 3 comedies on TV; and remain critically acclaimed.

Also getting renewed for next season is veteran drama "Deadly Visions" which has earned a multi-season renewal for two more seasons; keeping it on-air through its sixth season. The crime procedural is currently Gen-TV's fourth highest-rated drama (after respectively, American Citizen, Fugitive Recovery and The Border Police) and remains in the top 5 highest-rated shows on Gen-TV. It earned a single nomination this year.

Lastly earning a renewal is "Having Faith"; a highly rated spiritual drama that has easily won its Friday night timeslot each week. It earned four nominations this year and is among the most acclaimed new series on TV.

Noticeably absent from this list of renewals is "Boston Blues"; which despite earning four nominations has suffered from declining ratings and a loss of critical support this season. Gen-TV Executives commented on this saying "We are waiting to see how BB's does in its new timeslot over the next few weeks."

Default Big News: Boston Blues

Gen-TV Announces BIG Plans
---New Showrunner, Cast Changes Ahead

Gen-TV Executives weren't kidding when they said earlier this month that big changes were coming for "Boston Blues"; the sophomore drama that has seen a dramatic ratings decrease from its debut season. In an effort to curb that downward trend, Gen-TV has hired a brand new showrunner to take over the series and as Gen-TV Vice President Amy Fung-Wilson said "kick some life into this show and restore it to the marquee name it should be."

Taking over duties as Executive Producer and showrunner will be a team of talented TV veterans. Serving as the primary creative force behind the show will be Nick Santora (Scorpion, Breakout Kings), who will be joined by three writers who are veterans of Gen-TV; Maggie James (The Huntress, Lifeline), Stephen Goldfarb (The Malones, Deadly Visions) and Victor Morell (This Time Around, Trauma Center).

Episodes helmed by the new team will debut on Gen-TV in March and will include a number of surprising changes; including what Santora describes as "A nearly total overhaul of the cast." "We're looking to really shake things up." "This is a cop show and the danger factor is going to be explored in big ways this season." "We're looking to turn this show from a soap opera into a serious police drama."

Most of the casting changes are being kept secret until they air, but one change that is being announced ahead of time is that Vanessa Angel, who recently earned a "Best of TV Award" nomination for her work has been fired from the show and will exit before the season ends. "Vanessa is very talented, but her performances no longer fit the feel we're going for."

Gen-TV makes SAG History
---Broadcasters Wins A LOT of SAG Awards

Just like a month ago when Gen-TV made history and swept the Golden Globe Awards, winning 50 total prizes; the network has once again made TV history by making a full clean sweep of the 2020 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Gen-TV was victorious at every single category in the SAG Awards; and makes history as the first (and only) network to ever sweep the entirety of the SAG Awards and Golden Globe Awards in a single year.

The full list is below:

Performance by an ensemble in a drama series
“Big Little Lies” (HBO)
“The Crown” (Netflix)
“Game of Thrones” (HBO)
“The Handmaid’s Tale” (Hulu)
“Stranger Things” (Netflix)
"Boston Blues" (Gen-TV)
"The Border Police" (Gen-TV)

At the Golden Globe Awards earlier this month Gen-TV's "Having Faith" was named the Best Drama Series. But at the SAG Awards it was "The Border Police" that reigned victorious. "The Border Police" is nominated for Drama Series at the Best of TV Awards and competes against fellow Gen-TV series "Fugitive Recovery."

Performance by an ensemble in a comedy series
“Barry” (HBO)
“Fleabag” (Amazon)
“The Kominsky Method” (Netflix)
“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (Amazon)
“Schitt’s Creek” (Pop TV)
"Kate & Ali" (Gen-TV)
"The Boss Lady" (Gen-TV)
"Ready To Wear" (Gen-TV)
"Cafe Oddity" (Gen-TV)

Kate & Ali won the Ensemble Comedy Series Award at SAG, mirroring the GG awards where it won "Best Comedy Series." At the Best of TV Awards it is nominated for that as well alongside Gen-TV's "Ready To Wear" and "Baker's Dozen."

Performance by a male actor in a drama series
Sterling K. Brown, “This Is Us” (NBC)
Steve Carell, “The Morning Show” (Apple TV)

Eion Bailey, "The Border Police" (Gen-TV)
James Van Der Beek, "Boston Blues" (Gen-TV)

For Male Actor-Drama, Jeffery Nordling of "The Border Police" won; whereas "Fugitive Recovery" star Dylan Bruno won the Golden Globe. At the Best of TV Awards, Gen-TV has three nominees; including Nordling, his co-star Eion Bailey and James Van Der Beek from "Boston Blues."

Default Gen-TV's Holdings & Expirations

As per FCC guidelines, Gen-TV has released a full list of it's current holdings and recently expired contracts.

Gen-TV lost its rights to a number of programs in late 2019 and early 2020, but has picked up a number of new contracts as well. Among the big losses are the exits of "The Good Wife", "Girlfriends, "2 Broke Girls", "30 Rock" and "Two And a Half Men" which all expired at the end of 2019. The network also lost the rights to less popular programs such as "One Tree Hill", "The Americans", "Felicity", "Justified" and "Two Guys & A Girl."

The loss of "30 Rock" and "2 Broke Girls" is a major blow for Gen-TV; who was outbid for both by seperate networks. Until now, Gen-TV held the exclusive broadcast TV rights to reruns of "30 Rock" but was outbid by Comedy Central in November 2019. "2 Broke Girls" expired at the start of this month and will move to MTV2 in February after they won the non-exclusive rights. Gen-TV was outbid by nearly a million dollars on both series.

Sources say that Gen-TV opted to let "Two and A Half Men" expire as "they really ran that one into the ground by rerunning it nearly ad-nauseam in the year and a half they owned the rights to broadcast it." Gen-TV President Margo Danbury says "Though it remained very popular with our audience we just rerun it so much that we felt it was time to let it go and program something else." "It is a similar situation we faced with The Good Wife as well; very popular with our viewers, but we simply overplayed it so much."

Gen-TV has renewed the contracts of two sitcoms and a drama; "Modern Family", "Night Court" and "Castle" through 2022.

Default Updated Daytime & Weekend Schedule

Gen-TV Network has released an updated version of their daytime and weekend schedule for January 2020. The new line-up features alterations to their second-run series as necessitated by some contractual changes that have taken place.

Also of note is the network has taken the steps of splitting their daytime schedule up into different zones based on the ages of the audience that the series are suitable for. This includes an entire block of programming aimed at viewers under the age of 12 and other blocks for viewers 12 and older, and sections suitable for all ages.

In terms of Gen-TV's original programs, "The Special Classroom" returns to Gen-TV after nearly a year and a half off-air due to licensing issues.
