Default Should they have had Mrs. Garrett on the final episode?

Should they have had Mrs. Garrett return for the Facts of Life final episode? Especially since Charlotte was there for the final taping and wrap up party?

If Charlotte Rae wanted to be on that episode for the finale, then absolutely she should have been on and played a central role. If they asked her and she did not want to be on, then that is absolutely fine as well. that is her choice. I hope they talked it over with her and both sides were satisfied with the decision.

I think we all would have LOVED to see her in the final episode. It would have been a cool way to end the series.

An appearance by Edna would have been welcome in some form, though being that the show was hoping for a continuation/spin-off, the final show was an unsatisfying series finale. Most importantly, there was a lack of a presence for all the ladies except Blair, not to mention that blah last scene.

In many ways, the two-part season-eight opener worked as a better finale.

By the by- why isn't Mindy Cohn in that photo? (Also, Cloris, though more so Mindy.) Charlotte looked great there.

Rumor has it that Mindy pretty much fled after her last taped part and didn't take part in the series wrap up party. We know that Mindy felt the series hindered her getting parts in movies and that the show was not realistic at the end with all 4 girls still living in the same room after all those years and the virginity issue.

thats too bad it ended like that. with Mindy not happy and an underwhelming finale. Its good that Mindy does the podcast now and she has her say in how to portray the show and her memories. I thought the Nancy Mckeon episode was great.

I didn’t realize Charlotte Rae was there at all. It would have been great to see her jump out of that chicken suit instead of Rick. Edit - it wasn’t Rick....it was a random guy (?). Whoever...it would have been funny to see Mrs. G.

I imagine she would have come back for a 10th season finale.

It certainly was a great send-off for Charlotte, although the weird Winnebago-on-a-cliff scene was so odd, in retrospect.

Can not picture Charlotte Rae wanting to jump out of a chicken suit as her last act on a show she dedicated nearly 10 years of her life to. remember she was on the previous show as well and NBC gave her this show as her own. would not seem dignified for her.

Retro- yeah, that was an oddity. It was a great send-off for Charlotte, and also with Mrs. G's emotional scenes with the girls.

Just wish they would have produced a better series finale than what was.

I kind of figured you were, I just didn't want anyone else to pick up the quote and run with it and before you know it there are 15 posts about Mrs G in a chicken suit.

The rest of the episode was great. If I had it to do all over again, I would have replaced the Winnebago scene with a guest appearance by the Drummonds, bringing the show full circle: Willis, Arnold, Kimberly, and Mr. Drummond visit, to say their farewells to Mrs. G.

...and maybe some of her old students, who lived with her for a while.
