THE HOLLYWOOD INSIDER

"LIFE LESSONS" TO END AFTER FIVE SEASONS
YTN announced that veteran comedy Life Lessons will end after its current fifth season.

This is yet another long-running comedy that will conclude on the network next season. YTN already announced High Times of Denver and Blended would conclude next season.

Similar to Blended, Life Lessons is in the midst of a larger season (28 episodes) to make up episodes lost from last season. Given only 11 episodes have aired so far this season, its expected the series will continue airing episodes into the fall season.

Insiders tell us the series is currently filming episode 17. The announcement gives production teams plenty of time to plan for a proper finale.

Once it finishes airing, Life Lessons will have aired 130 episodes.

-----

EDITORS NOTE: Gen-TV went on planned hiatus from Sunday, January 31 and did not resume airing original episodes until Sunday, March 7th. Ratings will be published for that week soon.

Gen-TV Ratings Report:

Sunday, March 7:

Gen-TV’s first Sunday of March was an overall success. “Roomies” shows tremendous growth in demos and total viewers; while “Difficult Broads” debuted to universal acclaim and more than respectable ratings. “Biological” moves to a new night and shows a slight drop in ratings, and “Baker’s Dozen” is also down in demos and total viewers.

8pm: Roomies (New, Timeslot Premiere): 20.3 million/10.3 (10.32) 18-49

9pm: Baker’s Dozen (New, Timeslot Premiere): 18.3 million/6.1 (6.16) 18-49

10: Biological (New, Timeslot Premiere): 18.7 million/11.3 (11.38) 18-49
-----------------

Monday, March 8:

Gen-TV’s Monday was a mixed bag of triumph and tragedy. On the bright side, “Unemployed” is steady as a rock with 16.7 in demos and “Our Pet Dragon” is also strong with 10.1. On the negative side, “Motherhood: The Series” and “Descent” both dropped significantly.

8pm: Grounded (New): 9.1 million/3.8 (3.84) 18-49

830: Unemployed (New): 32.9 million/16.7 (16.74) 18-49

Tuesday, March 9:

Gen-TV’s Tuesday was a success, but not without its problems. The long-awaited return of “Feds” was a bit of a dud with only 5.8 in demos and 11.3 million viewers tuning in. “The Border Police” was a strong performer with 30.7 in demos (clearly the dominant show of the evening), but it too was down significantly over its last broadcast original episode in February. Lastly, “Snitches” was also down.

8pm: Feds (New, Timeslot Premiere): 11.3 million/5.8 (5.84) 18-49

9: The Border Police (New): 50.1 million/30.7(30.71) 18-49

10: Snitches (New): 14.1 million/5.8 (5.81) 18-49

-------------------

Wednesday, March 10:

Although it returned down in demos and total viewers, “Kate & Ali” still delivered strong ratings with a 17.5 in demos. New comedy “Ball & Jayne” debuted to fantastic ratings with a 12.8 in demos and 24.1 million viewers tuning in. In a new timeslot “Searching” was down in total viewers and demos and new drama “5150” tackles the subject of mental health but didn’t click with viewers with a 2.8 in demos.

8pm: Kate & Ali (New; Timeslot Premiere): 21.4 million/17.5 (17.57) 18-49

830: Ball & Jayne (New; Series Premiere): 24.1 million/12.8 (12.81) 18-49

9: Searching (New; Timeslot Premiere): 14.1 million/7.8 (7.81) 18-49

10: 5150 (New; Series Premiere): 10.1 million/2.8 (2.81) 18-49
-------------

Thursday, March 11:

Gen-TV’s Thursday night was a surprisingly uneven night, with “Ready To Wear” posting losses in both households and demos. “Bless Your Heart” continues a downward trend and “Fugitive Recovery” also posts losses in total viewers and demos. Only “Grand Jury” manages to rise in demos.
8pm: Ready To Wear (New, Timeslot Premiere): 16.3 million/9.9 (9.94) 18-49

830: Bless Your Heart (New; Timeslot Premiere): 8.3 million/2.3 (2.32) 18-49

9: Fugitive Recovery (New) 30.8 million/29.1 (29.14) 18-49

10: Grand Jury (New): 30 million/21.3 (21.35) 18-49

----------------------

8pm: 7th Heaven (New): 24.5 million/12.8 (12.81) 18-49

9pm: Having Faith (New): 29.4 million/19.1 (19.18) 18-49

8pm: Stuck In The Middle (New): 8.1 million/3.1 (3.13) 18-49
830: The Boss Lady (New): 11.4 million/4.1 (4.12) 18-49

Default Gen-TV News: 7 Series Renewed

Gen-TV Renews Bubble Series
---Gen-TV Reups on Seven Shows

Gen-TV has confirmed renewals for seven series, officially renewing all of their remaining "bubble" series. First the obvious news, Gen-TV has secured additional seasons of mega-hits "7th Heaven", "Having Faith" and "Grand Jury", all three of which will return for their third seasons in the fall.

Also getting renewed are freshmen series "Difficult Broads", "Ball & Jayne", and "5150". The first two have earned luminous reviews and extraordinary ratings upwards of 20 million viewers each week, while the latter is a true bubble series, earning respectable reviews and lower than expected ratings. It's renewal is said to be "the direct cause of its fantastic reviews from critics and universal support online from viewers who passionately advocated for its renewal based on its subject matter."

Lastly, also getting renewed is "Biological", a weepy family melodrama from the creators of "Sisters" that stars Debra Messing, Amy Yasbeck, Alicia Witt and Joanna Cassidy among others. The series will return for a second season and reportedly will undergo some slight retooling.

This news comes as Gen-TV is said to be "a matter of weeks away from announcing its Fall 2021 schedule."

930- Grandparents - 4.31 million viewers and 0.6 (0.586) A18-49, even with last weeks low. After a promising start last season, Grandparents seems to have taken a hit this season. It was last years number one new comedy for the network, and is the lowest rated overall this week. Since the network is already clearing out four veteran comedies this season, it seems unlikely Grandparents will get the axe. The sophomore comedy also has 20+ episodes waiting to air so it will be around for quite some time. The comedy is currently down 49% YTY.

10- TAKEN: Phoenix - 6.38 million viewers and 0.6 (0.611) A18-49, even with last week. The spinoff of long-running TAKEN has also hit a wall this season. While the mothership is down 27% YTY, TAKEN: Phoenix is down 34% YTY.

Default Breaking Blue Production Delays, Show Will Return

---Breaking Blue Production Issues
----Hit Summer Series Moving To New Zealand

Last Summer's biggest hit for Gen-TV was "Breaking Blue" a surfing drama focused on an American teen studying surfing in Australia. The series is expected to return this summer as it was already renewed last year. However, due to COVID-19 production on the show has faced some setbacks. Production is set to resume next week, but sources tell us that due to COVID restrictions in Australia that parts of the production on this show are being moved to New Zealand. A source for Gen-TV says "due to strict COVID protocols in Australia right now parts of our production will take place in New Zealand due to travel restrictions and the unavailability of some cast members to travel to Australia." "We will be using a New Zealand based production crew for that portion of filming.' "We hope to bring you a great third season."

Default Daytime Scheduled GUTTED

Gen-TV's newest iteration of their daytime schedule has gotten off to a moderately successful start. Launched about a month ago on January 10th, the new schedule featured the long-anticipated return of daytime soap opera "Promise of Tomorrow" which debuted to a pretty fantastic 2.9 in demos and over 1.1 million viewers in total viewers. In total viewers this by far makes it the #1 rated soap opera on TV, far head of "Young & Restless" which posted about 322,000 viewers in the same time period (January 10-16, 2021), and in demos it is the same story, where "Y&R" ranked #2 with 2.2 over "POT's" 2.9.

The same trend continued for the remainder of January, with "PTO" typically outranking "Y&R" by a narrow margin each time.

New daytime chat show "Chatting with Chrissy Teigen" got off to a decent start posting 3.4 million viewers upon its debut with a 3.8 in demos. Over the course of the month it continued posting within that range, only dropping to 2.1 million viewers/2.7 18-49 once, on January 20.

New talk show "The Panel" has struggled to stabilize its viewership, debuting on January 10th to 210,000 viewers and posting a 1.0 in demos; it hasn't shown much growth since then; and on February 2nd posted a harrowing .84 demos and was seen by 65,000 viewers.

The news is slightly better for acquired talk shows airing on Gen-TV. "The Drew Barrymore Show", "Tamron Hall" and "Kelly Clarkson" have all been stable performers for Gen-TV. "Tamron Hall" ranks #1 among these three (on Gen-TV only) while "Kelly Clarkson" is wedged in the middle of the pack. "Drew Barrymore" is in third place; but its a close race. Among demos, "Tamron Hall" posted an average of 3.2 while "Drew" posted an average of 2.7 overall.

Among critics, the return of "Promise of Tomorrow" has been hailed as a triumph with most in the soap world heralding its use of COVID-19 as starting point for its storylines. Among performances, three actors from the show are garnering much of the acclaim; Elizabeth Hubbard who came out of retirement to revive her signature character of Vivian DeFontaine has been given ravenous reviews as her character; once a wealthy businesswoman struggles to maintain her lifestyle as her businesses are ravaged by lockdown restrictions and the death of nearly a third of her staff.

Erika Slezak, a six-time Emmy Winner for her work on ABC's "One Life To Live" returned to daytime TV in a new role as a diner owner forced to make drastic decisions when her business is closed due to lockdowns. Slezak has earned sparkling notices for her nuanced take on a new character with critics saying "Slezak proves she is not a one-trick pony and that she's fantastic even when not playing the role she's been most associated with."

and lastly, Kelly Ripa has earned stellar notices for her work as twins Shane and Sydney; one of whom is dying from COVID and the other struggling with her father and sisters illnesses.
Gen-TV News:
Two Talk Shows Cancelled

Gen-TV has cancelled two-thirds of its line-up of original daytime series, cancelling newbies "Chatting with Chrissy Teigen" and "The Panel." Neither show will return in the fall and it is unlikely they will even air reruns this summer.

While, "Chatting with Chrissy Teigen" has generated stable numbers, the show has not become a breakout hit or cultural touchstone as Gen-TV had hoped for and is seen as not being worth the cost of continuing to fund it.

Only "Promise of Tomorrow" has snagged a renewal of Gen-TV's daytime programming. The soap opera which returned to the air in January has become a genuine hit and continues to dominate daytime ratings, and has maintained critical acclaim. The series is being renewed for another season, which works out to roughly 300 additional episodes. The series is currently in production already, but is already four months ahead of schedule from what is currently airing on TV. This new batch of episodes likely won't begin airing util January 2022.

Gen-TV News:
---Three Classics Returning

Gen-TV has announced that three of their classic unscripted series will return in the fall and air on daytime. Gen-TV confirms that "Climb The Pyramid" will return this fall and will air back-to-back episodes hour-long episodes every single day. After being cancelled by YTN in 2017, the popular game show was picked up by Gen-TV and after some revamping was added to Gen-TV's summer schedule where it aired for five successful seasons and spawned spin-off "Climb the Pyramid: Family Edition." It was cancelled in 2020, as Gen-TV's scheduling needs changed.

Also returning is "Interviews" a hit unscripted series featuring in-depth and deeply personal celebrity interviews, infused with humor and wit. The original version hosted by Sandra Bernhardt ran for six and a half seasons before Bernhardt left the show and was replaced by John Fugelsang for its final season and a half. In this updated version of the series, Whitney Cummings takes over hosting duties. Lastly, "Critically Speaking" will return with original episodes each weekday. Father/Son Duo Eugene and Dan Levy will take the reigns from previous hosts Joe Levvy and John Fugelsang. In addition to new hosts, this series will alter its format as well. The original series featured a panel of critics discussing and analyzing popular musicians and songs; but the new version will cover mostly films and television.
