Pity, ain't it? Even so, I wouldn't attack a man that's disabled, that's low.

Yes, it's awful. Does anyone know how severe his disabilities were and whether they have improved over time? He did seem like a sincerely nice guy who couldn't have seen what a monster he married until too late.

I read he suffers from permanent nerve damage. He also suffered cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, and lung collapse. Thats the most details I know

The kid said his mother was the only one who taught him love? How does trying to kill his father and kidnapping him teach the kid love? He learned her version of love so well he beat his own father. Shall we say serious therapy here.

I think it's safe to say Elizabeth engaged in some heavy duty brainwashing of Jonathan, a la the Maples.
maybe you should know the family like i do and what happened. And know she did not brain wash jonny he remembers all that was done to him. And further more elizabeth was very much abused and tried to leave but was threatened with her life if she did. Husband was no angel in all this. BUt yes he did not deserve to be beaten by his son either. But believe me the violance was taught to johnny very young from the house issues that went on.

This could become a "Maples" type thread really quickly...

There are always two sides to every story.

I always love the "family members" or "close friends" who defend the guilty with lines like "you weren't there" or "I heard there was abuse" or "you don't know him like I do."

While there may be two sides to the story and I'm sure no one is perfect, just ask yourself this: Who was charged and convicted, and who wasn't?

Enough said.

Agreed. Who was the one with life-threatening, horrible injuries that impact him almost 20 years later? Gilbert, not Elizabeth.

Even if Gilbert was a bad guy in this whole dysfunctional scenario, I do not believe that Jonathan "remembers all that was done to him". He was only 2 when his mother took him out of the country. It's almost impossible for a person to remember things that happened when they were only 2 years old and younger.

It's more likely that his mother told him things that were done to him (which she would have lied about, imo) and he could possibly recall those events as memories.

Pot, meet kettle.
