Ah, I meant to cap the previous quote too. What I was meaning to say is that Mary has never been publicly interviewed on the subject. She refuses every time. For me, this case is closed. There are two writers. The original was a coworker who had a crush on Mary and is now dead. The second is Mary/her sister hell bent on sticking what they could to Paul. That is fact.

I can't believe they were so stupid as to continue sending letter after his incarceration.

I agree with you. Completely ridiculous that Freshour had to waste ten years of his life in prison because of a crazy ex wife.

Started to believe Mary Gillespie and the superintendent might be the writers and even behind the booby trap

I think Ron fired his gun after the accident in an attempt to get the attention of passing cars. He probably realized he was seriously injured, and having no ability to get out of the car and flag someone down, he used the only thing he had that might grab someone's attention. This was long before cell phones were prevalent.

A less likely scenario is that the person who called Ron happened upon the scene shortly after the wreck, and Ron fired a shot at him to either protect himself or let this person know he meant business and was intending to kill him.

Either way, I think his death was an unfortunate and coincidental accident. He probably was drinking to the point of intoxication before he hopped behind the wheel. The caller also ignited his rage, as it was probably pretty obvious to him that the superintendent was sleeping with his wife. I think we can safely rule him out as the CW. Bonus points to Paul for stating he hoped that LE would look into his death again, even after he was no longer a member of that family.

This is one of the finest mysteries ever.

It's fun to speculate.

Ugh, there's no speculation. It's the best example of a cheating wife, a corrupt local sheriff, a spiteful ex wife. It's all in the court docs and I've had the pleasure of talking to Martin Yant. Paul was set up and he stayed set up. (I had to).

He denied any wrongdoing until the end.

The letters continued while he was in prison if I remember correctly.

Yes, there was no way he could write them. The Warden even wrote a letter stating it would be impossible for Paul to write them from prison. The letter that was sent to Unsolved Mysteries only arrived after Paul, Mary, Paul's ex wife, and Radcliffe had been approached about the segment. No one else had been talked to.
There's a lot more to the case than the segment could show.

The "booby trap" wasn't even a working piece, plus Mary handled it after being advised to not touch anything to be considered evidence. The courtroom couldn't even demonstrate it as working. It was in pieces when Mary turned it in to Radcliffe.

The whole case stinks for Paul and isn't even a mystery from a second act standpoint. The only mystery is who killed Ron and why.

I agree! Don't let the haters get you down---they just want to accept what they think is the easiest explanation. But that's not necessarily the truth!

Nah. There's more to it than that. The cheating didn't begin until AFTER the letters started coming.

God, I hate skeptics.

Says who? The night that Ron was murdered, where was Mary? Tell me that.

There was a YT video linked in one of the threads, which was a local 3 minute news story on the case. It was made in 2012, when Paul was still alive. They interviewed a local man (who received letters) as well as Martin Yant (the PI interviewed in the episode). It was more or less a "remember this" type of story, but there was one part in it that stood out. Martin Yant makes a comment towards the end of the video about how the letter writer seemed deeply interested in local politics, and how Freshour wasn't from nor did he live in the county where Circleville was located. Just another interesting tidbit that was left out of the UM show, although it was hinted at.
