Default Update: Ozzie and Harriet' House Sold to "Law & Order SVU" Actor Chris Meloni

Link + Photos

“The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” Nelson house in Hollywood Hills West is on the market at $4.995 million.

The East Coast-inspired traditional-style home doubled as a set for the family television show in the 1950s and '60s and as the Nelson’s home. Now the 1916 two-story house, set on a half-acre, has been remodeled with Kishani Perera-designed finishes.

The one-time home of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson of the early TV series is up for sale in Hollywood Hills West.

Gone is Ozzie Nelson’s model train, which ran on a track near the ceiling in the pub room and had been passed down from homeowner to homeowner. But the light and bright updated interiors retain the Old Hollywood charm of the house, which includes a center hall, formal living and dining rooms, a media room, a den, five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

The 5,283 square feet of living space features hardwood floors, French doors and three fireplaces.

A herringbone-patterned brick deck surrounds the kidney-shaped swimming pool. There's also a brick driveway and a pool house.

The property sold last year for $3.025 million, public records show.

Eric Lowry of Coldwell Banker is the listing agent.

Last year, I posted the "before remodeling" pictures of the inside of the house.

After looking at the "after remodeling" pictures, it doesn't look that great to me. I like the inside of the house before the remodeling.

“The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” Nelson house in Hollywood Hills West has sold for $5.25 million to actor Chris Meloni, The Times has confirmed.

The East Coast-inspired home, built in 1916, doubled as a set for the family television show in the 1950s and '60s and as the Nelsons' home. The recently remodeled two-story Traditional house sits on a half-acre.

The light and bright updated interiors retain the Old Hollywood charm of the house with hardwood floors, French doors and three fireplaces. A center hall, formal living and dining rooms, a media room, a den, five bedrooms and seven bathrooms lie within the 5,283 square feet of living space.

A herringbone-patterned brick deck creates the setting for the kidney-shaped swimming pool and pool house.

Meloni, 53, is in this year’s films “White Bird in a Blizzard” and “They Came Together” as well as the TV series “Surviving Jack.” He played cops on “NYPD Blue” and “Law & Order.”

The property previously sold for $3.025 million, public records show. Real Estalker at Variety broke the news of Meloni’s purchase.

Eric Lowry and Clemens Mandell of Coldwell Banker were the listing agents. Nick Small of Rodeo Realty represented Meloni.

Even after nearly half a century, the press continues to propagate the myth that the television show was filmed in the family house! The family house served as the model for the way the family's house was portrayed on the show, but the show was filmed at General Service Studios in Hollywood, not in the family's actual house!

I seem to remember reading an interview with Rick, from the early 1980s, in which he said something like, he took it as a compliment when people said that they thought that the show had been filmed in the family's house, that people thought that the show seemed natural enough that viewers could believe that. By implication, he must have heard this from more than one person, to say the least.

At any rate, that house (the real one on Camino Palmero St.) continues to develop it already rich showbiz pedigree!
