Thanks for doing this! I've been trying to find all the affiliates' schedules but to no avail. I'll mark these changes and add them to my "Where to find classic series..." post which I haven't updated for a few weeks. I was wondering what the programming will look like when RTN goes national this summer. What have you heard so far? I'll assume that all stations will then follow the same schedule. If they stick to this formula, it should be sensational. I know some folks here are excited about ION, but I'd say that RTN's schedule is better, in particular the St. Louis and Buffalo channels, even though I'm willing to guess that ION's ratings are a little better. Oh well, there's no accounting for taste.
MrBand 03-24-2007, 08:05 PM In case anyone wasn't aware, the Buffalo RTN affiliate can be streamed here:

MrBand 03-25-2007, 09:05 AM MrBrand: Have you tried watching the streaming video when the actual RTN progams are on? I wonder if it is blacked out?
Yes, I actually checked it last night to be certain it was working before posting the link and caught part of Mission: Impossible.
storrs19 03-25-2007, 09:09 AM Thanks alot for posting this since Louisville, KY is too lame to have an affiliate I can watch it streaming online from Buffalo.
I see no 1950's sitcoms at all, and the only other 1950's shows I see listed are dramas and westerns: Perry Mason, Have Gun-Will Travel and two shows which started in 1959 and barely qualify as being in the 1950's decade (Twilight Zone and Rawhide). Gunsmoke spanned 1955-1975, but as TV Land does, they probably won't show any of the B&W episodes from pre 1965 (not that I care).
Again, another channel with an averison to anything from the 1950's. (I am surprised they are going to broadcast anything filmed in black and white at all).
My locale (KDEV) only lists 6 one-hour shows and they're all dramas. I guess the rest of the time will be filled up with "paid programming" (infomercials) and locally selected programs (no hope there either).
I see the TV listing supplement in my local paper (Denver) doesn't even list the Retro station for the area (KDEV channel 39) even though all the other low-power UHF analog channels are listed. It's hardly necessary to mention, Comcast Cable doesn't carry it at all.
Now, where's that 'bowtie' UHF antenna I used to have?
storrs19 03-25-2007, 09:28 AM V20. I have to agree. I am a huge fan of many B&W shows but I have a feeling we may NEVER see them again unless they somehow make it to dvd, legit or otherwise. :(
TVJunkie101 03-25-2007, 09:30 AM On the streaming ... yes, you can see the actual episodes they are airing. It's not blacked out. What would be the point then?
Storrs19, I never would have guessed when I was watching all those great 1950's shows on N@N and CBN's Family Channel in the 1980's that in fifteen years, they would have COMPLETELY disappeared from every channel in the entire nation, whether cable or on-air broadcast AND that almost none of them would be available for purchase.
I can remember coming home from middle school in the late 1960's and watching an entire late afternoon of 1950's and 60's greats. (For example, I can remember watching Anne Francis as Honey West with her pet ocelot.) I can remember in 1975, the local NBC affiliate broadcast an entire summer of George and Gracie at 3:30 in the afternoon. I had never even heard of G&G, I assumed Burns and Allen was a show about two men(!). I fell in love with her zany, daffy logic. I watched it every afternoon for the entire three months.)
I remember feeling saddened when my mother told me that Gracie had died back in the 1960's.

I sure hope that Kenner get's This Channel
In your case, I think that KWCE Alexandria, LA might be your best bet. Can you get that where you live? If not, use the link from MrBand to watch the Buffalo channel. It's got some good stuff on it!
storrs19 03-26-2007, 10:19 AM I guess I will have to go back to radio
On XM Channel 164 they air: Jack Benny, Burns & Allen, The Great Gildersleeves, Fibber McGee & Molly, Abbott & Costello, Stan Freeburg, Dragnet, Superman, and a ton of other good programs including Lux Radio Theater.
TVJunkie101 03-26-2007, 11:50 AM Oh wow, this feed is awesome!

Is there anything new on this network? Are they going to release any kind of further information before July 7th? I hope they will eventually expand and make their services available to DirecTV so we can just forget TV Land even exists anymore and enjoy something with quality programming methods!!!

You want to know what bugs me? To me, RTN seems to be unfairly overshadowed, on this board anyway, by other stations like ION and American Life TV, neither of whom, in my opinion anyway, even come close to offering the variety and quality of programming that RTN does, and that's while it's still a regional network! That's just not fair!
One other cool thing I've discovered about RTN Buffalo: Along with its normal lineup of 60s sitcoms, they also offer feeds of baseball games from the Yankees, Mets, and Indians. Tonight it's Yankees vs Mets! Sure beats "National Bingo Night" any day!
I guess there just isn't 'contact' with them? I guess ION is more widespread, but there are quite a few on this board that get this network.
Pavanbadal, are there any plans to start covering this network after it goes 'national?' If the other ones are covered it seems logical that this one be also.
Pavan 06-15-2007, 10:21 PM Sal, what more can we do about RTN right now? We gave all of the lineups for each local. As of this writing, all they are a handful of local stations. Yes, they have good programming...no doubt. I give the edge to AmericanLife...they air shows unedited. That is covered much more because they are a national cable channel.
TV Land Fan, we don't have any additional details yet on RTN's national launch, but we will certainly cover it.

samanddiane4eva 06-29-2007, 11:06 AM When watching the stream, is anybody else getting a blue screen but still able to hear what's going on??
bobes6 06-29-2007, 02:52 PM Yes I am, right now at 2:55 P.M. 6/29/07
Dennis Dubois 06-29-2007, 08:17 PM Me too! Ugh! 6/29/07 8:12 PM.
I just started watching the feed regularly on Monday. This channel is very addicting. So far, I watched The Nanny, Mad About You, Family Ties, The Beverly Hillbillies, Get Smart, Hogan's Heroes, Happy Days, The Lucy Show, Hawaii Five-O, Matlock, Cheers, and Andy Griffith. I could see something was wrong on Wednesday. The picture started getting really bad. Hopefully, if it's fixed, the stream will be better. I hope it goes to DISH Network when it goes National so we can watch it on regular TV.
I hope this is just a temporary thing. I remember a few weeks ago the RTN feed had the same problem and it was fixed a few days later. What I'm hoping for is that it will clear up before the channel goes national July 7, which is only a week away. Speaking of which, does anyone know what the schedule will look like after that? The suspense is killing me!
An 80s Guy 06-30-2007, 05:36 PM I'm having the blue screen problem as well.06/30/07 4:37 PM
Well, the 7th has come and gone, what's going on with RTN? Can anyone that gets the network enlighten those of us that don't have access to it. Has the schedule changed, logo, anything? Thanks!

goes national does that mean it be everywhere like on direct tv n stuff it passed july 7th
I have searched everywhere online and can't find a thing. No schedule, no press releases, no stations, no official website, nothing. Wonder why they're so mum about it???
Has anyone ever tried to email Equity Broadcasting? I emailed them the other day, asking about RTN but no response. Do they usually not answer their emails?
samanddiane4eva 07-12-2007, 05:20 PM Now the Internet stream isn't working. It hasn't since before going national or maybe it was the same day, I'm not sure which.
Should we be getting suspicious?
Welcome back Pavanbadal. Have you heard anything on what this network is doing and their future plans yet?
The stream still isn't working.
Pavan 07-16-2007, 12:37 PM Thanks TV Land Fan. I've left several messages to RTN. No responses yet. It certainly isn't national yet, as you all know. I'll let you all know when something is released or if I hear anything.
Pavan 08-15-2007, 05:21 PM Here is some news finally...but it isn't anything about national:

"WBAY is pleased to offer another choice to our viewers with this new entertainment channel," adds Don Carmichael, General Manager of WBAY-TV.
"WBAY-TV has been broadcasting in the Green Bay market for 54 years and we are excited to partner with such a strong station to introduce RTN programming in the area," said Mark Dvornik, Executive Vice President of RTN.

Now the Internet stream isn't working. It hasn't since before going national or maybe it was the same day, I'm not sure which.
Should we be getting suspicious?
It's working now! I wonder for how long. Maybe someone should get a pool started. I give it 4 weeks tops. Of course, it's no surprise to me. What do you expect? It's from Buffalo! They're used to screwing things up...especially their sports teams!

MikeLutton 10-10-2007, 06:30 PM when wil direct tv pittsburgh get it i dont get wpix yet use to when i lived my other state.
This is wonderful. If it comes to my area, I will croak. They have the concept down pat!
I wonder if there are going to be more special syndicated feeds for subchannels launched in the future like RTN.

Oh, you bet I'm asking about NYC. That is my market!
This station looks wonderful....I see Pittsburgh is airing I Love Lucy. Haven't seen any of the other affiliates airing that if I can recall correctly.
Chelsea 10-11-2007, 03:57 PM This station looks wonderful....I see Pittsburgh is airing I Love Lucy. Haven't seen any of the other affiliates airing that if I can recall correctly.
I Love Lucy is general syndication and not RTN. RTN affiliates can compete in the general syndication marketplace just as much as regular stations can (the Lexington KY RTN station's actually a majority syndicated programming, for example).
MikeLutton 10-11-2007, 05:49 PM i looked on wpxi .com and asked my direct tv server and they dont carry it and i saw schedule on wpxi .com pittsburgh pa it didnt mention this schedule at all wierd
Pavan 10-11-2007, 07:03 PM You need digital cable to view it. You're not in Pittsburgh, are you?
MikeLutton 10-11-2007, 07:33 PM no im in pennsylvania digital cable sucks.
WHat ever happened to RTN going 'national?' Did we ever figure out what that even meant? I am assuming they meant all of the subchannels would be airing the same thing, and that is obviously not the case. They have a great thing going and I think the HD subchannels may give some much-needed variety to free/over the air television (and digital cable as well).
Pavan 10-11-2007, 11:28 PM TV Land Fan: They are going national. That is what these affiliates turning RTN's are. They never said they were going to be a one-feed national cable/broadcast network. RTN is a network airing on digital feeds (not HD feeds, it is DT feeds) of a local channel catering to the local channel's programming needs.
They have announced quite a few local channels, and I'm sure there is much more to come. Let's hope they will be on more than 90% of the country soon.
Pavan 10-12-2007, 05:27 PM COX Television Adds Third RTN Affiliate
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Oct. 12 -- Retro Television Network (RTN), which is nationally owned and distributed by Equity Media Holdings Corporation (Nasdaq: EMDA), announced today that COX Television plans to add a third RTN affiliate on its El Paso, TX station. The network will launch in 2008 on a digital stream of KFOX-TV, the local FOX affiliate that serves the El Paso, TX / Las Cruces, NM market.
"So far, three COX stations are affiliated with RTN and the reason for this positive response is because their schedule offers a cohesive program
niche that we can effectively market to viewers," said Bruce Baker, Executive Vice President of COX Television. "Additionally, clients can relate to RTN both in terms of program environment and target market, so it is a great combination."
"Viewers in these three COX Television markets will fall in love all over again with Love, American Style and will be on the edge of their seats as Dr. Richard Kimble, played by David Jansen, is The ugitive on the run trying to prove his innocence," said Mark Dvornik, Executive Vice President of RTN. "In the evening, audiences will enjoy seeing Robert Stack as Elliot Ness in The Untouchables."
RTN is a new television network that provides each affiliate a customized feed with classic hit shows, in addition to local programming including news, weather and sports. RTN is specifically designed to go on a broadcast digital channel and provides local broadcasters with a way to get ratings and successfully monetize their digital spectrum.
RTN will launch in Pittsburgh on COX's WPXI-DT this Monday (October 15) and in Reno on COX's KRXI-DT on January 1.

Actually, while it said it was supposed to launch yesterday, I think it launched real early this morning. So far I've been figuring out some of the schedule the hard way, by watching or recording, lol.

You mentioned on the blog that you have an interview with RTN coming up. If possible, please ask them if there are plans to add a NY affiliate. This schedule is great! Thanks.
Also, I'd like for you to ask if RTN's plans are for the greater Los Angeles/Southern California metropolitan area (in 2008?) It would be great now that The Tube music video channel is gone that KTLA Channel 5 (CW) should replace it with RTN's classic programming (digital 5.1) or KDOC-TV Channel 56 (Ind.) in Anaheim, California (Orange County) should get RTN programming even though the station's slogan is Endless Classics, it airs some great classic shows on its main broadcast channel daily and a few shows on weekends.
Thanks! :)
Pavan 10-18-2007, 12:48 PM I don't think satellite company's have DT feeds, only digital cable. Though, I could be wrong. Check with Dish Network.
I have already asked them about the top markets (NY, LA, Chicago), so you'll see that in my interview! It should be posted by next week.

I wish they would air some more of those CBS sitcoms instead of all of those dramas that most of the affiliates have a lot of. Stuff like My Three Sons, I Love Lucy, Hogan's Heroes, Happy Days, Andy Griffith, Gomer Pyle, Laverne and Shirley, The Honeymooners, Brady Bunch, etc.
HE Pennypacker 11-01-2007, 10:30 AM RTN launched its affiliate in Lafayette today. I can't wait to get home from work and check it out!
I found this on TitanTV....for anyone that's interested, the weekday schedule for KDCG/Alexandria, LA. They're airing a lot of their own programming too, so where there's spaces they air non-RTN shows. What's up with Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous airing on every station? That's sort of a strange show for a 'retro tv' network, IMO.

Jude The Obscure 11-02-2007, 09:43 AM Yes indeed--was surprised to come home last night and see Hawaii 5-0 and Mission Impossible playing!!! :D And FWIW, KDCG is a fully operational broadcast station--not a digital subchannel of another station. They produce their own local newscast, plus local culture oriented shows such as a Cajun music showcase. Sure the heck beats the Sportsman Channel stuff they were airing most of the time!!
I found this on Equity's website, but it was never posted here....from last Tuesday:

More Stations Get Retrofitted -- With Retro Television Network (RTN), vintage TV goes digital
By Michael Malone -- Broadcasting & Cable, 11/12/2007
Is the Fonz still cool with viewers nearly a quarter-century since Happy Days last aired? Apparently so, as numerous stations have signed up Retro Television Network (RTN) for their digital channels. With multicast channels The Tube tanking last month and Motor Trend TV spinning its wheels prior to launch, station groups have shown a sudden interest in bringing their “Aayyyy” game by offering reruns of vintage hits like Happy Days, Get Smart and Mission: Impossible, packaged in locally customized formats.
“It's primetime all the time,” says RTN Executive Vice President Mark Dvornik, “and we can highly customize it to an individual market.”
Last spring, RTN parent Equity Broadcasting Corp., which owns a variety of stations across the country, worked out a deal with CBS Television Distribution to run programs from CBS' vast library. But what separates RTN from the “all classics, all the time” format of cable channel TV Land is that the feed can be tweaked to reflect the local market.
That might include sports, with KQUP Pullman (Wash.) airing 70 Seattle SuperSonics games a year on RTN; or local news from either the station or RTN itself. The network can draw on Equity's Little Rock-based anchor crew to provide news segments. “Everybody's embracing the local,” says Dvornik, the former EVP and general sales manager at Paramount Television Group, who joined RTN earlier this year. “We want [stations] to be as local as they can be.”
Dvornik also points out that unlike TV Land, RTN does not air multiple episodes of one series throughout the day. The network also sets itself apart with “retromercials”–decades-old spots that are familiar to viewers of a certain age, such as the famed heart-tugging PSA featuring the Indian on horseback, a fat tear welling up as he sees litter strewn across the terrain.
Stations are increasingly seeking to monetize their digital channels, and RTN has closed a rash of deals of late. In recent weeks, the network announced partnerships with station groups including Barrington, Young, Cox, Allbritton and Scripps, to air the vintage programs on the digital doppelgangers of stations such as KRON San Francisco, WXYZ Detroit and WSET Lynchburg. Stations agree to a 50-50 commercial split with RTN, and pay a monthly service fee.
At presstime, there were 24 RTN affiliates up and running nationwide, with as many as 10 more set to launch in the near term. Sources say Media General and Raycom are each considering RTN for system-wide placement as well (The Tube launched on Raycom stations in 2005). A few big broadcasting players are also rumored to have inquired about buying into the network.
There are a growing number of multicast options for stations, such as WeatherPlus and AccuWeather; the LATV network for Hispanic viewers; and the .2 Network, offering popular films and series, which debuts in February.
Tommy Schenck, who launched RTN on Capitol's WRAZ Raleigh in August, says the local Hispanic community, while substantial, wasn't quite large enough to merit a digital channel. But there were enough family-oriented viewers for RTN. While he doesn't have ratings information yet, he says anecdotal evidence shows RTN connecting with viewers. “We've had a lot of comments, and they've all been favorable,” says the WRAZ VP/general manager. “I get a lot of 'I can watch that with my kids!'”
The same goes for KQUP, which General Manager Rod Hall says started airing RTN almost two years ago. Year-over-year ratings went up 60% from the channel's previous life as a UPN outlet to its reincarnation as the home of musty cop dramas like Hawaii 5-0 and Hunter. “There are a lot of baby boomers like me out there,” says Hall.
While a station may not get rich running reruns of Sanford and Son, some consultants say there remains a healthy market for the old shows, which often find new fans when kids tune in with their parents. Bill Hague, Senior V.P. of media research firm Frank N. Magid Associates, says RTN represents a unique foil to all-day weather and traffic. “I don't know if it'll bring in the tonnage better than 24/7 news, but it's an interesting counter-programming play,” he says.
Dvornik believes the quality of the CBS trove transcends time. “These shows feature the best directors, best writers and best actors that Hollywood had to offer,” he says. “The crime dramas, in particular, are prequels to the hit procedural shows we love today.”
And with RTN's various series long since retired, talk of current shows suspending production due to the writers' strike only makes the classic fare more attractive. “We're strike-proof,” says Dvornik. “None of this affects the business we're doing.”
Pavan 11-12-2007, 01:32 PM RTN to Launch in Montgomery
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Nov. 12 -- Retro Television Network (RTN), which is nationally owned and distributed by Equity Media Holdings Corporation (Nasdaq: EMDA), announced today that it will partner with Raycom Media to bring RTN programming to Montgomery, AL. "We've focused on serving viewers well for the past 53 years in the Montgomery area and this new entertainment option will bring many moments of family enjoyment."
"We are thrilled to partner with Raycom in their home market on their flagship station WFSA-TV," said Mark Dvornik, Executive Vice President of RTN. "Viewers in Montgomery will soon be enjoying RTN's 'Primetime All the Time' lineup."

chris31989 11-12-2007, 03:40 PM I liked the article. It makes a lot of sense. I'm glad a company finally is seeing the potential old shows STILL may have. I don't think viewers are asking for too much when they ask for these old programs to be brought back on the air. They are classics, with good writing, acting and many people grew up watching these shows, and newer generations can discover them as well, increasing their popularity. I'm 18 and rather prefer these old shows to the new ones.
I can't wait to see if RTN will ever enter Connecticut.

.2 is owned by Guardian Enterprise and will launch on local stations in February. They recently cut a deal with Sony to air something like four of their shows. .2, like RTN, will mostly be available on broadcast station's digital signals - ideally their x.2 channel.

Great interview! Thanks for working in the question about an RTN affiliate in the NYC market. I emailed WPIX about adding RTN a few weeks back, so they certainly know how I feel! I can't help but think that their reticence on the matter is a hopeful sign of things to come.
Nice interview! I wonder if they'll add any shows in the near future. Can they get library content from any of the other studios (Warner, Sony, 20th, Universal) like they have one with Paramount, or does ION have those tied up (well, not 20th)? Since they are both broadcast...

WOAH! This makes up for the lack of RTN news lately. Hopefully we'll see some more group deals in the future to help them expand faster.
BTW, PB.....do you think they will get any new shows this year? They've been running the same for quite a while now. It'd be nice to see some more stuff like Bewitched, Green Acres, Mary Tyler Moore, Hart to Hart, etc.

Sigh. Still no NYC affiliate.
I'd be perfectly happy if their current shows remained until it launches in my area.
Yeah, same for me, I was just wondering if they have explored adding some more shows....surprised they haven't added that many in the larger markets yet, though.

They only have rights to Paramount shows and some Universal really.
I wonder if there are any plans to have an RTN Canada. Since last fall, Canadian stations have reduced the number of classic 60s series that they've shown, so a channel that would have stuff like "Beverly Hillbillies", "Get Smart", "Gilligan's Island", "Bewitched", and similar shows from that era would be very welcome up here. The closest RTN station in my area is the Buffalo one but that doesn't work very well. Its UHF signal can't reach across the border, none of the cable companies in my area carry it, and the Net streaming shuts down every so often. So I'd say that this is overdue.
Yeah, maybe there will be a Canadian version someday - but I'd expect them to further solidify their presence in the US before they go branching out.
At least someone has the guts to program classic TV the way it should be done. TV Land is so pathetic at it. They certainly are doing a good job. Hopefully they won't be under the pressure like TBS, Nick@Nite, TV Land, etc. are under to worry so much about advertising/ratings.

When they say 24/7, does that mean no infomercials? I know a lot of the affiliates air RTN from 10AM-1AM or so and paid programming the rest of the time. Are the 24/7 ones 24 hours straight of shows without infomercials, like TV Land?
Pavan 02-04-2008, 05:03 PM They probably have informercials in late nights, you'll have to check a particular station for details.

icecream 03-19-2008, 03:39 PM RTN Adds Affiliate in Evansville, INThat makes me mad. Evansville gets an RTN station and yet my city Fort Wayne, a larger city in the same state, doesn't.
Jude The Obscure 03-20-2008, 10:31 PM Very interesting lineup! wish some of those were on my RTN lineup.
chris31989 03-21-2008, 01:41 PM I like the RTN bug on the bottom of the screen during the holidays. For Easter, they have bunny ears on top of the RTN logo. These little things make me appreciate RTN even more. All you get from TVLand is a bug with an ad for High School Reunion.
snowpeck 03-28-2008, 09:37 PM Sometime ago I saw a commercial about this station for the Tri-Cities by us, so I may eventually check it out.
(One of the cities is in both VA and TN, while the other two are both in TN)
I haven't seen one since, but it'd be nice to have the channel.
I'm in the Tri-Cities area. RTN is on 19.3 on over-the-air digital, and on all the area cable systems on the digital tier. If you live in Kingsport or parts of Bristol, you can also pick it up on channel 9 on over-the-air analog.

chris31989 04-02-2008, 08:47 AM The RTN website known as RTNville, is now up and running! The site address is www.retrotelevision.net. It is still somewhat under construction, but you may be glad to know they give an e-mail address and contact information to leave feedback.
Finally we get to see what shows they have access to. I find it odd that they have I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, and Star Trek yet nobody carries them? Seems those would get choice above Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. What gives?
Gosh, they sure do have a good portfolio of shows.
Pavan 04-02-2008, 03:51 PM RTN Announces Agreement With Citadel Communications, Adding 3 New Stations

The new affiliates will air on the digital streams of WOI-TV (Des Moines-Ames, IA), KLKN-TV (Lincoln, NE) and WHBF-TV (Davenport, IA/Rock Island-Moline, IL).
"We look forward to the launch of RTN in three of our markets. Viewers will benefit from RTN's classic program line-up, advertisers will benefit from RTN's family-friendly program environment and our stations will benefit from RTN's turnkey secondary digital channel solution," said Ray Cole, President and COO of Citadel Communications Company. "Like the programming on RTN, it's a 'classic' win-win."
"Today we are announcing a three-market deal for RTN with Citadel Communications to carry our 'Prime Time All the Time' lineup," said Mark Dvornik, Executive Vice President of RTN. "Citadel's strong management team in each of their markets makes them an ideal network affiliate."

The network's unique design allows each affiliate to remain in complete control while RTN runs the local and national master control from its central hub. Grave Money Trouble for Retro Television Network Parent
Equity Media Holdings Files Amended Annual Report, Cites 'History of
Losses'
By Michael Malone
Retro Television Network parent Equity Media Holdings has hit money
troubles, according to an "amended annual report" it issued earlier
this week.
The Little Rock, Ark.-based broadcaster owns 23 full-power stations
and a total of 121 "stations, licenses and permits," according to its
Web site, including substantial Spanish-language holdings. Equity also
owns RTN, which offers vintage programming like Get Smart and Mission:
Impossible on station partners' digital channels.
RTN has been signing up affiliates at a rapid clip, inking a deal with
a trio of Citadel Communications stations in the Midwest this week.
But according to the report, Equity is bleeding money, and it may
continue to do so for some time.
"The company has a history of losses," the report read. "The company
had a loss from operations of $33.4 million for the year ended Dec.
31, 2007, as compared with a net loss of $14.9 million for the year
ended Dec. 31, 2006. There can be no assurance that the company will
become or remain profitable or that losses will not continue to
occur."
The report also said Equity must find new funding, and fast, to stay
afloat.
"The company's existing capital resources are not sufficient to fund
operations," it read. "If the company is unable to obtain adequate
additional sources of capital in the near term, it will need to cease
all or a portion of its operations, seek protection under U.S.
bankruptcy laws and regulations, engage in a restructuring or
undertake a combination of these and other actions."
Equity's troubles were first reported in the Arkansas
Democrat-Gazette.
chris31989 04-03-2008, 03:17 PM What happened? Now the website is gone, the WGNS online stream is not working at all, and this news comes that Equity Broadcasting is having problems. I knew it. It just had to happen that RTN is losing out. I surely hope RTN doesn't go away. But TVLand remains stable though and for what?
friendsfan77 04-03-2008, 03:21 PM Damn it! I'll probably never get to enjoy this channel. :(
Well, I would hope Equity will try their best to salvage the RTN concept. Sell all of the affiliate stations and put those proceeds in to paying off debts/savings or either sell RTN to someone who can fund it. Or seek bankruptcy protection. Just keep RTN so I can at least see it. LOL
I hope this isn't PAX all over again..
Pavan 04-04-2008, 11:20 AM RTN Adds Affiliate in Palm Springs
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Apr 4, 2008 -- Retro Television Network (RTN) announced today that it will add a Palm Springs, CA affiliate next month on KDPX-TV. The station is available over-the-air on Channel 45 and on Time Warner Cable on Channel 14.
"We are very excited about our launch of RTN in Palm Springs. I think there is a real pent up demand in our market for a network like RTN," said James Primm, General Manager of KDPX-TV. "Over the past 10 years since we first went on the air, I have had many viewers ask us to bring them many of the programs we will now carry on RTN. Despite its emphasis on 'retro programming,' I think RTN is developing a network that makes sense for us and our viewers today."
Mark Dvornik, Executive Vice President of RTN, said, "We look forward to bringing our 'Prime Time All the Time' lineup to viewers in Palm Springs."
RTN is the first completely-customizable, national television network to provide a 24/7 digital feed of hit shows to each of its affiliates. The network's unique design allows each affiliate to remain in complete control while RTN runs the local and national master control from its central hub. Pavan 04-09-2008, 02:50 PM COX Television to Add 7th RTN Affiliate
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Apr 9, 2008 -- Retro Television Network (RTN) announced today that COX Television plans to add a 7th RTN affiliate on its Johnstown/Altoona/State College, PA station. The network's "Prime Time All the Time" lineup will launch early next year on a digital stream of WJAC-TV, COX's NBC affiliate in the market.
"RTN has generated lots of positive feedback to our station, so it makes all the sense in the world to expand this franchise to our nearby sister station, WJAC, in Johnstown," said WPXI and WJAC program director Mark Barash. "Once word of RTN gets out in the Johnstown, Altoona, and State College market, I think the viewers will respond as they have in Pittsburgh."
"We are excited to add another Cox Broadcasting station to RTN's growing affiliate body," said Mark Dvornik, Executive Vice President of RTN. "The strength of our network is reflected in the strong local broadcasting partners we have affiliated with like WJAC-TV."
RTN is the first completely-customizable, national television network to provide a 24/7 digital feed of hit shows to each of its affiliates. The network's unique design allows each affiliate to remain in complete control while RTN runs the local and national master control from its central hub. Jude The Obscure 04-12-2008, 03:08 AM Finally was able to get into the website--wow, all the shows they have access to. Although I wish my RTN would dump Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous--sorry but that does not to be seen in reruns! That is an hour something else can air--two sitcoms or a good drama!
Scoobiedoo30 04-12-2008, 12:08 PM I will be glad when I can get this great Network
Pavan 04-16-2008, 01:18 PM RTN Launches New Website - www.RTNville.com
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Apr 16, 2008 -- Retro Television Network (RTN) announced today that it has launched a new network website, www.RTNville.com. The website features extensive content about the network, including detailed show descriptions and a complete list of RTN affiliates.
"We are thrilled to have a website that showcases RTN programming," said RTN's Neal Ardman. "I believe that RTNville.com is the perfect next step for our network."
RTN is the first completely-customizable, national television network to provide a 24/7 digital feed of hit shows to each of its affiliates. eng51squad51 04-17-2008, 05:07 PM In case anyone wasn't aware, the Buffalo RTN affiliate can be streamed here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20060408161858/http://www.retrotelevision.net/genericstream.html
This stream is back now back and i`m watching this steam now.
I'm not sure how to take the news that I'm about to write so I'll give it to you straight and you tell me what you think.
Last week, I saw the new RTN website for the first time, and I was very impressed with the shows that they have on their network, so much so that I decided to tell them about it. I wrote an e-mail to them explaining how I love their programming lineup but rarely get a chance to watch it since the Buffalo RTN station in my area can't be seen on my TV, not to mention their online digital stream is often unreliable. So, with all the bravery I could muster, I posed this question to them:
Is there any possible way that you can add RTN affiliates in Canada?
Sounds pretty funny, doesn't it? RTN in Canada? Impossible, you say? That's what I was thinking. After I sent the message, I wondered about a couple of things. The first was if they would take the time to answer me back. The next was if they would give me a standard brush-off message, like when you send your resume to a company and are immediately rejected. Instead, the reply they sent me earlier today was short and certainly sweet. Here's what they wrote:
We are looking into it. Thanks for the suggestions!
Not exactly the definite "No" that I was expecting. To me, this sounds more like a "Maybe", and that's certainly room for optimism. even if at this point it's only cautious optimism. All I know is, if it wasn't an option before, it is now. They seemed to like the ideas I gave them, and who knows if any further developments will occur? Right now, RTN in Canada is a long-shot at best but I'd like to think I got the ball rolling just a little. If anything should come of this, I will let you know quickly. Keep your fingers crossed!
thebloodyscot 05-02-2008, 06:11 PM I moved recently so I don't have RTN anymore, but at least I can watch the stream which is better than my RTN was
chris31989 05-02-2008, 07:37 PM I too LOVE the feed. However, it's so unreliable. I wonder who runs the feed. I'm sure the actual station doesn't. They recently changed their schedule, but it still maintains variety. I became a fan of many older shows because of RTN. I watch The Beverly Hillbillies, Matlock, Andy Griffith, Cheers, and Hunter on the feed. They are not very old shows, but still the best. It's great and they have reasonable commercial breaks, and no pop-ups on screen, only an RTN logo on the bottom right.
Mr. Television 05-14-2008, 02:44 PM I just found out a few days ago that I have a channel that has Retro. It's buried down in my digital channels. :woohoo:
pav, what's going on with RTN? I remember reading they were having serious financial troubles. Are they still accepting affiliates? Just wondering, sure hope they aren't folding.
Pavan 05-23-2008, 08:02 PM I think more are coming soon.

Pavan 06-11-2008, 03:25 PM Little Rock, AR, Wednesday, June 11, 2008 -- Early today KWWL the NBC/RTN station serving Waterloo, Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, and Iowa City was off the air due to flooding in its studios. To help keep the residents of these cities up to date on the latest news and weather, and to provide entertainment relief, RTN (Retro Television Network), owned by Equity Media Holdings Corporation (Nasdaq: EMDA), was able to get KWWL back on the air using satellite technology through its sister company C.A.S.H. Services.
“During this time of crisis for the citizens of Iowa, we felt the most important function we could provide was up-to-date accurate information from the trusted news source at KWWL NBC 7,” said Neal Ardman of RTN and C.A.S.H. Services.
As part of this service, RTN will be rebroadcasting KWWL NBC 7’s news, weather, and all NBC programming on KWWL’s RTN 7.3 as well as Equity’s owned and operated Waterloo/Cedar Rapids station KWWF.
"We can't say enough about the generous help that was offered by our friends at RTN," said Tom Allen, Vice President of KWWL. "More than a provider of programming for our digital channel, they are truly a partner who stepped forward to help us during this difficult time."
Earlier this year, when KATV 7, Little Rock’s ABC affiliate, tower fell C.A.S.H Services was able to get KATV back on the air in a matter of hours. KATV remains on the air today partially through C.A.S.H. Services.
“RTN values our relationship with our affiliates and are ready to step in and help them at a moment's notice in an emergency. RTN is known for its cutting edge use of technology through its C.A.S.H. System,” said Mark Dvornik, Executive Vice President RTN.

Pavan 06-26-2008, 12:08 AM Equity Media Receives Up to $37.5 Million in Asset Sales Transaction With Group Led by Largest Shareholder Henry Luken III
Assets Include Retro Television Network (RTN) Subsidiary and Certain Stations
Equity Media Has Option to Repurchase RTN
Equity Media Enters Into Amendment to Its Credit Facility With Lenders
LITTLE ROCK, Ark., June 25, 2008 -- Equity Media Holdings Corporation (Nasdaq:EMDA) today announced it has closed an asset sales transaction with Luken Communications, LLC, a group led by Equity Media's largest shareholder Henry Luken III (the "Investors"). The Investors purchased Equity Media's Retro Television Network (RTN) subsidiary for $18.50 million. Equity Media has the option to repurchase RTN at any time during the next six months. Concurrently with the closing of the RTN sale, the Investors purchased for $1.50 million warrants to purchase up to 8,050,000 shares of Equity Media for $1.10 per share. Equity Media also has entered into asset purchase agreements with the Investors for the sale by Equity Media of certain television stations. Equity Media has received a $5 million prepayment on the stations sale from the Investors. The stations sale will be consummated, and Equity Media will receive the remaining payment of $12.5 million, upon receipt of FCC and certain other approvals. Following consummation of the station sales, Equity Media will continue to own and operate 100 stations in 35 markets representing 24.8% of U.S. television households based on Equity Media's current stations roster.
The transactions with the Investors were approved by a special committee of the board of the directors of Equity Media, which received an opinion from an independent investment bank that the consideration being received in the transactions was fair, from a financial point of view, for Equity Media's unaffiliated stockholders.
Equity Media will use a portion of the current proceeds from the transactions to retire a portion of its credit facilities in a principal amount of $17.5 million. The remaining current and future proceeds from the transactions will be used for working capital and to fund operations as Equity Media continues to explore ways to maximize shareholder value, including pursuing strategic partnerships, potential further sales of assets, cost cutting initiatives and additional financings. Equity Media has entered into an amended engagement agreement with Thomas Weisel Partners with respect to these efforts.
Equity Media has also executed an amendment to its existing senior secured credit facility.
The transaction overview with the Investors is as follows:
Sale of Retro Television Network
Equity Media today received $18.5 million in cash for all of the outstanding shares of Retro Programming Services, Inc. ("RTN"). RTN is a growing network with 73 affiliates that currently covers 38% of U.S. television households. Equity Media has the option ("RTN Option") to repurchase RTN for $27.75 million plus an amount equal to the capital and net operating expenditures invested by the Investors prior to the repurchase (together with a return on such expenditures at the rate of 12% per annum), which is exercisable at any time through December 24, 2008. The Investors received a license to utilize Equity Media's Central Automated Satellite Hub ("CASH") delivery technology in operating RTN. Equity Media will maintain the RTN operations center in Little Rock, Arkansas and create communications links between any new operations center created by Luken Communications, LLC. These operations centers will serve as backup to each other with the data required to operate each of the centers redundant.
As part of its engagement by Equity Media, Thomas Weisel Partners will explore strategic alternatives, including potentially working with strategic partners, for the repurchase of Retro Television Network during the option period and also will assist in identifying additional sources to help finance additional digital networks, similar to the RTN model, that Equity Media may develop using the CASH technology system. Management of Equity Media believes that the transaction with the Investors will allow for RTN to continue expanding affiliate relationships and its national reach during the option period. Equity Media will work with the Investors to assist in the continued growth of RTN as Equity Media makes efforts to realize on its current objective of repurchasing RTN.
Sale of Certain Television Stations
Equity Media has entered into an agreement with the Investors to sell certain television stations currently affiliated with Univision/Telefutura located in six markets including Amarillo (Texas), Waco (Texas), Fort Myers/Naples (Florida), Minneapolis (Minnesota), Oklahoma City (Oklahoma) and Tulsa (Oklahoma). Equity Media today received $5.0 million as an initial payment from the Investors, which is nonrefundable except in certain circumstances. Equity Media will receive an additional $12.5 million upon consummation of the stations sale, which is subject to Univision's right of first refusal held on these stations and customary Federal Communication Commission approval. Equity Media has the right to terminate the agreement prior to consummation of the sale, subject to certain provisions.
Warrant Purchase
Equity Media sold warrants to the Investors to purchase 8,050,000 shares of Equity Media's common stock at an exercise price of $1.10 per share, exercisable through September 7, 2009 (the "Luken Warrants"). The purchase price for the warrants was $1.5 million. In the event the Luken Warrants are exercised, the Investors' ownership stake would increase from approximately 20% ownership to approximately 30% ownership. In connection with the amended engagement agreement between Thomas Weisel Partners and Equity Media, Thomas Weisel Partners received warrants to purchase up to 1,075,279 shares on the same terms as the Luken Warrants, as well as a cash fee, in consideration of its assistance with the transactions with the Investors.
Amendment to Senior Secured Credit Facility
Equity Media has also entered into an amendment to its senior secured credit facility. Equity Media will use a portion of the current proceeds from the transactions with the Investors to pay down a portion of such credit facility. Following this pay down, approximately $38.5 million will be outstanding under the credit facility.
Equity Media previously announced a management realignment and will focus on leveraging its core assets as a digital delivery platform, disposing of non-core station assets, realizing increased revenue and cost reduction opportunities across Equity Media's media platform, and offering new opportunities for content delivery for digital networks and station owners.
"On behalf of the Board of Directors and management we are excited to have closed on the transactions. The proceeds of these transactions enable us to continue to offer the depth of our technology platform, television stations and new business opportunities for our partners and shareholders," said John E. Oxendine, Chief Executive Officer of Equity Media Holdings Corporation. "Equity Media has an exciting technology platform that complements management's mission to offer compelling media services to content owners, advertisers, and affiliates."
So is this good for RTN or bad for RTN? LOL
Maybe that's why we haven't heard of any new affiliates lately.
Pavan 06-27-2008, 11:38 AM I heard back from Mark Dvornik of RTN (who we interviewed last year) and he says this is very exciting news and it is all positive for RTN. A step in the right direction.
Good to hear, pav...maybe Equity was holding them back with their financial troubles..
I don't get why RTN isn't on in Chicago, NYC, and LA....the three biggest markets. Are the major-market stations skeptical of it or something?
Pavan 06-28-2008, 02:05 PM Well, Equity did buy three New York low power stations awhile back. Nothing has come of them yet.
bettygunn 06-30-2008, 03:56 PM Hi
Could someone help me with a question about RTN? I live in the San Francisco area and upon installing my digital converter box could not find the retro channel on any of the stations for KRON (4.1, 4.2, 4.3) which is listed as the affliate on the RTN website. Does anybody know if the listing on the website is an error? or am I do something wrong in locating digital channels on my box? Any help would be appreciated.
I meant to post this earlier....I don't believe KRON is affiliated with MyNetwork TV or RTN anymore. They appear to be totally independent now. :(
Pavan - a quick question - do you know if RTN is currently accepting affiliates (with the transition and all)? I was going to call all of my locals tomorrow and suggest that they add it, but I was wondering if it'd be a waste of time and I should do it later.
Thanks
Pavan 07-08-2008, 09:20 PM Doesn't hurt to try. The sale of RTN was a good thing.
