Introduction:

Up, up and away! Warner Brothers has wasted no time in issuing the complete fifth and sixth seasons of the hit 1950's "Adventures of Superman" series. All 26 episodes (13 each season) from the last two seasons of the series are included on this set, along with a bonus featurette that spotlights Jimmy Olsen and his portrayer, Jack Larson. Starring in the series are George Reeves as Clark Kent/Superman, Noel Neill as Lois Lane, Jack Larson as Jimmy Olsen, John Hamilton as Perry White and Robert Shayne as Inspector Bill Henderson.

Memorable Episodes / Notable Guest Stars:

Notable episodes for the last two seasons are "Tin Hero," "The Town That Wasn't," "Money To Burn," "Mr. Zero," "The Last Knight," "The Magic Secret," "Divide and Conquer," "The Atomic Caper," "The Gentle Monster," "Superman's Wife," "The Brainy Burro," "The Perils of Superman," and "All That Glitters."

There really are no notable guest stars for these two seasons.

Packaging:

The main color for the set is a nice shade of teal. George Reeves as Superman is front and center, with squares behind him, filled with screen captures from the episodes made to look like a comic book. The set is flip-fold. Opening it reveals all five discs layed out, along with the listings of episodes and what discs they are on along with episode descriptions. The discs themselves are teal in color. Disc 1 features George Reeves as Superman and contains episodes 1-6. Disc 2 features George Reeves as Clark Kent and contains episodes 7-12. Disc 3 features Noel Neill as Lois Lane and contains episodes 13-18. Disc 4 features Jack Larson as Jimmy Olsen and contains episodes 19-24. Disc 5 features John Hamilton as Perry White and contains episodes 25-26 along with the special feature "Superman's Pal: Jimmy Olsen."

Menu Design and Navigation:

The main menu is similar to the last release. I call it a live-action comic book. It's really cool and I'm glad they used the design again for this last release. The menu selections are separated into boxes, with clips of the series playing (and then looping). Selections are "Play," in which you can play all of the episodes on that disc, "Episodes", in which you go to a sub-menu and can pick the episode you want to watch, "Special Features," in which you go to a sub-menu that lists the special features on the set and "Languages" which takes you to another sub-menu to pick subtitles or the language.

Video and Audio Quality:

Once again, the video quality is a little soft in areas and some fuzziness are evident, but overall, it's a great transfer. The audio itself is fine, nothing to be worried about. Available on the set is English as the language along with French and Spanish subtitles. Closed captioning is available as are chapter skips and each episode is uncut, running a good 26 minutes in length, as shown below.

A bonus feature not listed on the set. This is a trailer for the upcoming video game featuring the Justice League characters.

Final Comments:

A nice, solid release by Warner Brothers--this set brings an end to the wonderful and timeless "Adventures of Superman" series. Only one bonus feature is disappointing, but considering how many were on the first several releases, its understandable there is only so much to include, although commentary would have been nice! Sorry to say that my reviews of one of my favorite series has to end, but the end is here and if you haven't purchased any seasons yet so far, do so now, it's a family friendly set that any age can watch and enjoy! The only thing you won’t find out on this set is how George Reeves died…you’ll just have to speculate on that.

Final Numbers (out of 5 stars - How our point system works)

Video Quality: 4/5
Audio Quality: 4/5
Special Features: 3/5
Menu Design/Navigation: 5/5
Overall: 4/5
