Introduction:

The #1 hit show of the 1990ís is BACK on DVD! This year Roseanne (ROSEANNE ARNOLD) finds an old stash of pot, Dan (JOHN GOODMAN) re-connects with an old flame and fights with his father, Jackie (LAURIE METCALF) has a one-night stand with Fred and gets pregnant, Darlene (SARA GILBERT) leaves for college and hides that she is living with her boyfriend, Becky (SARAH CHALKE) and her husband return home while DJ (MICHAEL FISHMAN) discovers an affection for the church. Wow!

Memorable Episodes / Notable Guest Stars:

Some memorable episodes include "The Mommy's Curse" in which Jackie blackmails Roseanne into firing Bev, only to have Bev get the ultimate revenge on her daughter. "A Stash from the Past" is the one in which Roseanne, Dan and Jackie smoke an old stash of marijuana. "Be My Baby" in which Jackie reveals she is pregnant. "Halloween V" is the one in which Roseanne persuades Dan to play a prank on Nancy. "Homeward Bound" in which DJ deals with puberty and David secretly moves in with Darlene in Chicago. "Homecoming" is the one in which Sarah Chalke joins the cast as Becky. "Thanksgiving '93" is the one in which secrets are revealed. "White Trash Christmas" is the one in which the family goes all out to be the trashiest house on the block. "Busted" is the one in which Roseanne discovers David living with Darlene. "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is the one in which Roseanne is kissed by Nancy's girlfriend in a gay bar. "Labor Day" is the one in which Roseanne intentionally does not include Fred for the birth of Jackie's baby. "I Pray the Lord My Stove to Keep" in which DJ joins the church and finally "Altar Egos" in which Jackie and Fred get hitched.

Memorable guest stars this season include Glenn Quinn ("Mark"), Johnny Galecki ("David"), Michael O'Keefe ("Fred"), Estelle Parsons ("Bev"), Sandra Bernhard ("Nancy") and Martin Mull ("Leon") co-star. Guest stars include Mariel Hemingway, Vicki Lawrence, Shelley Winters, Ned Beatty, Florence Henderson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ahmet Zappa and Fabio!

Packaging:

The main box continues to use the same design as the past five seasons. Roseanne and Dan are featured on the cover, with five boxes underneath the logo featuring the rest of the family (minus Jackie). The main color scheme throughout is pink and green. The set is slip sleeve (two individual cases holding the four discs). The back of the box offers a great description as well as a nice color photo of the entire family as well as more individual pictures below, continuing the "boxes" from the front cover.

The first case holds Discs 1 and 2. Disc 1 contains episodes 1-6 and features a picture of Roseanne. Disc 2 contains episodes 7-12 and features a picture of Dan. The second case holds Discs 3 and 4. Disc 3 contains episodes 13-19 and features a picture of Sarah Chalke as Becky while Disc 4 contains episodes 20-25, and features the entire family on the cover (same image as seen on the back of the main box).

Menu Design and Navigation:

The menu is pretty much exactly like the main box art. It features the same picture as the cover and same color scheme. The "Roseanne" theme loops over the menu. The menu features a "Play All" option and an "Episodes" selection, which lists the episodes and you select the one you want. When you select an episode, it takes you to a sub-menu that allows you to play the episode and select the language or subtitles.

Video and Audio Quality:

Audio, as always, is fine and nothing at all to be worried about I think. The video is in excellent condition, so nothing to worry about there, either. Each episode has chapter skips and runs between 22 and 23 minutes, which is uncut for that period in the early '90s.

Special Features:

No special features once again. The series started well with extras, but they have disappeared, but luckily, the series is continuing on DVD at least.

Final Comments:

Anchor Bay continues to do a stellar job with "Roseanne" but unfortunately, they dropped the ball in terms of bonus features. Where are the bloopers? Interviews? Roseanne commentary? Special features? Nothing, which is a shame after five seasons of decent bonus features. Other than that, a great release and you should, if you have not already, get this!

Video Quality: 5/5
Audio Quality: 4.5/5
Special Features: N/A
Menu Navigation/Design: 4.5/5
Overall: 4.5/5
