The Tim Conway Show aired from January until June 1970 on CBS.

The first of Tim Conway's two 1970 series was a half-hour sitcom in which he was reunited with his McHale's Navy costar, Joe Flynn. Conway played Spud Barrett, the clumsy, oafish, but well-meaning chief pilot for Triple-A, that is, Anywhere, Anytime Airlines. He was the chief pilot primarily because he was also the only pilot. Owner of the airline, and Spud's boss , was cranky Herb Kenworth ( Joe Flynn), who despite being in the air-charter business , was terrified of flying. The airport out of which they flew was owned by Mrs. Crawford ( Anne Seymour), who also ran her own more prosperous charter service. Also feature on the show were Johnnie Collins III as her son Ronnie; Fabian Dean as Harry, operator of the airport burger stand; Dennis Robertson as Sherman; and Emily Banks as Becky, a Crawford employee and Spud's romantic interest.

The Tim Conway Show was not a hit and in the fall of 1970 Tim tried a new series on CBS. Called The Tim Conway Comedy hour, it was a variety show and was even less successful than his sitcom had been, lasting from September until December 1970. Conway did however , line up an impressive list of regulars: McLean Stevenson, Sally Struthers ( who a month after the show left the air started her long run as Gloria Bunker Stivic on All in the Family), Art Metrano, Bonnie Boland, singers Belland and Somerville ( during the 1950s Bruce Belland had sung with the Four Preps and Dave Somerville with the Diamonds), the Tom Hansen Dancers, the Jimmy Joyce Singers and announcer Ernie Anderson.

Conway would try many more sitcoms in the coming years but none met with success. His most popular show besides McHale's Navy was as a member of the Carol Burnett Show from 1975 until 1978.
