(see this users gallery) At Ease aired from March until July 1983 on ABC.
This short-lived military comedy was actually a remake of the classic Phil Silvers Sgt. Bilko series (The Phil Silvers Show). But this version, however, failed to attract a very big viewing audience.
The setting was a sleepy peacetime army post called Camp Tar Creek in Texas. The scheming Sgt. Bilko was replaced by the scheming Sgt. Valentine (Jimmie Walker) and his friend PFC Baker( David Naughton),and the Dim-witted Col. Hall was replaced by the equally credulous Col. Clapp( Roger Bowen), and klutzy, always-hungry private Doberman was replaced by equally klutzy Maxwell( Joshua Mostel).
The greatest threat to Sgt. Valentine and his army buddies in Company J was the Colonel's by-the-book security chief Major Hawkins( Richard Jaeckel), whose informant was tattletale Cpl. Wessel( George Wyner). Major Hawkins was always trying to shut down Val's scams and shape things up but could never manage to do it.
Sex appeal was added to the show by Baker's luscious girlfriend Cpl. Lola Grey( Jourdan Fremin) and a contemporary edge by the computers from Apple Computer Co. |
