Gary David Goldberg and Ruth Bennett created this half-hour sitcom which revolved around the professional and personal life of a young, attractive single woman in San Francisco. Sara ( played by Geena Davis who had guest starred in two episodes of Goldberg's hit NBC Series Family Ties earlier during the 1984-1985 season) was a lawyer who shared a storefront office with three other attorneys.One of them, Rozalyn ( Alfre Woodard), was also her best friend and full of advice on how Sara should run her social life.The other two were men-sleazy Marty ( Bill Maher), whose ambition often got in the way of his principles, and, unfortunately won; and Dennis ( Bronson Pinchot)the obligatory gay ( it was, after all, San Francisco), whose honesty and integrity often put him at odds with Marty. Helen ( Ronnie Claire Edwards) was the office secretary and surragate mother to them all. Stuart ( Mark Hudson), who lived in Sara's apartment building , was a recently divorced single parent trying to get back into the single world while raising his four-year-old son Jess ( Matthew Lawrence). Professionally he was a teacher.

NBC reran the series during the summer of 1988; by that time Geena Davis and Alfre Woodard had become major film stars and Bronson Pinchot was established as the star of Perfect Strangers on ABC.
