(see this users gallery) Farmer's Daughter ran from September 1963 until September 1966 on ABC.
This comedy concerned Katrin "Katy" Holstrum ( Inger Stevens), a naive sexy farm girl of Swedish descent who came to Washington D.C. to look for help from her congressman. Instead she wound up working for him. He was congressman Glen Morley ( William Windom). As Governess of his 2 motherless boys, Danny ( Rory O'Brien), age 8 and Steve ( Mickey Sholder), age 14. Also featured was Congressman Morley's mother, Agatha ( Cathleen Nesbitt), herself the widow of a congressman and Cooper the butler ( Philip Coolidge). Occasionally featured were Walter Sande as Papa Holstrum, Alice Frost as Mama Holstrum, and Nancy Decarl as Steve's girlfriend Pam. Through simple charm and native intellegence, Katy managed to losen up the sometimes stuffy politicians around her and to further Glen's bumbling political career. On November 5, 1965 Katy married Glen but this failed to reverse the declining ratings and the show concluded its run at the end of that season. Inger Srevens who always seemed so happy killed herself shortly after ( though not necessarily because ) the series went off the air. The program was based on the 1947 movie of the same name starring Loretta Young, for which Miss Young won an oscar.
