(see this users gallery) The Tony Randall Show aired from September 1976 until March 1978 on ABC and CBS.
This comedy concerned the courtroom and home life of a middle-aged Philadelphia judge. Court of Common Pleas Judge Walter Franklin ( Tony Randall) was serious about his work, sometimes a bit stuffy, but kind at heart and always had a twinkle in his eye. After two years as a widower Walter was ready for a little romance , and his attempts to both keep his dignity and charm his dates provided much of the humor. Walter played the field, although Judge Eleanor Hooper ( Diana Muldaur) was a recurring love interest.
Jack Terwilliger ( Barney Martin) was Walter's longtime , ultra-accurate court reporter who was also an ex-cop ; Miss Reubner ( Allyn Ann McLerie), the sharp-tongued motherly secretary; Mario Lanza ( Zane Lasky), the obnoxiously ingratiating assistant to the District Attorney ( he had started as a law clerk during the first season) ; and Mrs. McClellan ( Rachel Roberts), the nutty housekeeper. Walter's family consisted of 18-year-old daughter Bobby ( played by Devonn Scott and later by Penny Peyser), who was very much involved with current issues, and precocious 11-year-old son Oliver ( Brad Savage). Joining the cast in the fall of 1977 was Wyatt Franklin ( Hans Conried) , Walter's liberal-minded father, who considered his son something of a stuffed shirt.
Tom Patchett and Jay Tarses produced the series for MTM Enterprises.
