(see this users gallery) Singer & Sons aired from June 9-27, 1990 on NBC.
Nathan ( Harold Gould) had a problem: What to do when you're the third generation of Singers to run a Jewish deli in uptown New York City, and you're getting on in years, and you've got no sons to take the place over? Sarah ( Esther Rolle) had a solution: why not hire mine? The catch: Sarah , who had been Nathan's housekeeper since his wife had died, was black, providing the basis for this clash-of-cultures, bagels-and-soul- food sitcom. Mature Mitchell ( Bobby Hosea), who was college educated and divorced and streetwise Reggie ( Tommy Ford), Sarah's very different sons, did the best they could for grouchy old Nathan. Other regulars included Sheldon ( Fred Stoller), Singer's timid nephew who worked at the deli, Claudia ( Arnetia Walker), a beautiful black Waitress, Lou Gold ( Phil Leads), a regular patron, Mrs. Tarkasian ( Anne Berger), another patron and Deanna ( Brooke Fontaine), Mitchell's young daughter.
Michael Jacobs and Bob Young created the series. |
