Mickey aired from September 1964 until January 1965 on ABC.
At the outset of this comedy series Mickey Rooney was cast as Mickey Grady, a Coast Guard recruiter in landlocked Omaha, who dreamt of a life on the open sea. He got his wish-or at least got close to it-when he inherited a luxerous beachfront Hotel in Newport Harbor, California. When Mickey and his wife Nora ( Emmaline Henry) and his 2 son's Timmy and Buddy, moved from Omaha to take over the Marina Palms, they thought their money worries and other troubles would be over. Little did they realize that Sammy Ling ( Sammee Tong), the hotel's manager ( with a " lifetime contract") had let it go deeply into debt by letting too many of his relatives in on the operation. The legal work was being done by Ling's shyster cousin and the mortgage was held by the Ling Savings & Loan at an annual rate of 17%. Mickey and family set out to straighten things out, in their own comedic way. Mickey Rooney's real-life son Tim played his 16 year old son Timmy and Brian Nash played the 8 year old Buddy. Mr. Swidler ( Alan Reed) was the owner of a nearby gas station.
