Herbie, The Love Bug aired from March until April 1982 on CBS.
Herbie, a Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of it's own was the star of this lighthearted comedy series.Herbie had " adopted" it's owner, Jim Douglas ( Dean Jones), and spent much of it's time looking out for his welfare, including finding him an attractive young wife. Susan MacLane(Patricia Harty), a divorcee with 3 young children was the chosen bride, discovered by Herbie and Jim when they thwarted a bank robbery in which she was being held hostage. The children included Daughter Julie ( Claudia Wells) and sons Matthew and Robbie ( Nicky Katt, Douglas Emerson). Despite the efforts of her former boyfriend Randy Bigelow ( Larry Linville), to disrupt her new romance, Jim prevailed and the 2 were married in the April 7th episode. Jim ran a driving school with help from easygoing Bo Phillips ( Richard Paul), but his limited income from this venture forced him also to teach driver education at a local Highschool.
Based on The Love Bug movies produced by Walt Disney Productions from 1969 until 1980, with Dean Jones reprising the role he had played in 2 of them-The Love Bug ( 1969) and Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo(1977).
