(see this users gallery) The Corner Bar aired from June 1972 until September 1973 on ABC.
Shown during 2 summers, this sitcom about contemporary life focused on the patrons who freqented Grant's Toomb, a neighborhood tavern in New York City. During the summer of 1972 Gabriel Dell ( One of the original Bowery Boys) portayed bartender Harry Grant, but in 1973 the place was taken over by Mae and Frank( Anne Meara, Eugene Roche). The regular patrons in one or both seasons were Fred ( J.J. Barry who you might remember as Janet's Boss Mr. Compton on Three's Company a few years later), a griping, hard-hat bigoted cabdriver; Phil ( Bill Fiore), a scheming Wall Street Lawyer; Peter Panama ( Vincent Schiavelli), a gay set designer ( Corner Bar was the first series to have a recurring gay character ); and Donald ( Ron Carey), a flamboyant actor. The hired help included Joe ( Joe Keyes), the liberated black cook; Meyer ( Shimen Ruskin), the long suffering waiter; and Mary Ann ( Langhorn Scruggs), the sexy and slightly daft waitress.
Comedian Alan King was the executive producer and comedian Howard Morris( one of the second bananas on Your Show Of Shows and famous in the sitcom world as Earnest T. Bass on The Andy Griffith Show) was the producer.
