(see this users gallery) That Wonderful Guy aired from December 1949 until April 1950 on ABC.
A young Jack Lemmon starred in this early live situation comedy about a pompous theatrical critic and his eager but bumbling valet. Harold ( Lemmon) was a lad fresh out of a midwestern dramatic school and fresh into New York, looking for a chance to break into the Broadway big time as an actor. While waiting for opportunity to knock, he worked for suave, cynical drama critic Franklin Westbrook( Neil Hamilton). Despite slick production and smooth performances by newcomer Lemmon and old pro Hamilton, this series did not attract a sponsor and lasted only 4 months.
Lemmon himself did somewhat better than the valet he played here. After several more television roles, he landed a part in a Broadway play in 1953, then went to Hollywood in 1954 to begin a steller motion picture career.
Cynthia Stone, who played Harold's girlfriend, was Jack Lemmon's girlfriend in real life. Later in 1950 they were married.
