(see this users gallery) Strip Mall aired from June 2000 until march 2001 on Comedy Central.
The sleazy denizens of the Plaza del Toro strip mall in Van Nuys, California , were the subjects of this twisted, soap-opera-ish sitcom. The Funky Fox, a neighborhood bar, was home to Tammi( Julie Brown), a waitress and former child star whose career had been derailed when she stabbed her adult co-star, and Patty ( Victoria Jackson), a bartender with a metal plate in her head ( something about an incident in Baghdad). Nearby was the Starbright Laundry and Dry cleaners, run by big, gross Harvey ( Jim O'Heir), "The King of Stains"; Wok Don't Run, a Chinese restaurant owned by a fat, gruff Asian American lesbian named Fanny ( Amy Hill) and her sexy partner , Althea ( Loretta Fox); the Good Things craft store, run by newly impoverished yuppies Rafe and Bettina ( Maxwell Caulfield, Eliza Coyle); and We Shoot You Video, a photography studio run by a Ukrainian named Sergei ( Gregory Itzin), who serviced weddings and bat mitzvahs in the front and made pornographic films in the back. Assisting Sergei in his backroom studios were idealistic young director Josh ( Jonathan Mangum), sold-out assistant Barry ( Chris Wylde), secretary Tasha ( Tasha Taylor), and voluptuous "leading lady" Hedda ( Allison Dunbar), who could "do it" for the cameras with anyone or anything. Dwight ( Tim Bagley) was a local insurance agent.
Stories included gold digger Tammi's marriage to Harvey , whom she thought was worth millions, and her subsequent attempts to have him murdered by her biker boyfriend Blunt ( or his identical brothers Blair and Blank , all played by Bob Koherr); Sergei's riotous attempts to make a hit pornographic film ; well-endowed Rafe secretly doing videos for Sergei to make money to keep his customerless shop afloat; and Fanny Sue and Althea's enthusiastic pursuit of the lesbian lifestyle; including a stint hosting "Lesbian Country Karaoke Night" at The Funky Fox.
Strip Mall was executive produced by star Julie Brown, and directed by comedian Bobcat Goldthwait.
