Sanford aired from March 1980 until July 1981 on NBC.

One of the most successful comedy series of the 1970s was Sanford and Son, the saga of Fred Sanford , a cantakerous Los Angeles junk dealer. Its run ended not because of falling ratings , but because star Redd Foxx left the series to star in a variety show on ABC. The variety show lasted less than a season and, three years after leaving the role, Redd attempted to revive Sanford. Fred was still running his Watts junkyard, but since son Lamont was away working on the Alaska pipeline, he had two new partners, both friends of Lamont. Rollo ( Nathaniel Taylor) was a holdover from the original Sanford and Son, and Cal ( Dennis Burkley) was an obese white Southener who invested $ 2,000 to become part owner of " The Sanford Empire." Fred also had an unlikely new girlfriend in Eve Lewis ( Marguerite Ray), a wealthy Beverly Hills widow. What she saw in Fred nobody could understand , especially her daughter, Cissy ( Suzanne Stone), her brother Winston ( Percy Rodriguez), and her outspoken maid Clara ( Cathy Cooper). Fred's place got a little crowded as first Cal and then Aunt Esther's college-student son , Cliff ( Clinton Derrecks-Carroll)moved in to keep him company. Unfortunately for Fred, he had very little company among viewers at home and, after three short runs, Sanford quietly passed from view.
