Random Years aired from March 5-19, 2002 on UPN.

In this short-lived buddy sitcom, three guys in their early 20's who had been friends since grade-school were sharing a loft apartment in New York's Chinatown and trying to figure out what they were going to do with their lives. Alex ( Will Friedle), who wanted to be a music-critic, was working as a researcher for a magazine; insecure Wiseman ( Joshua Ackerman), whose mother had made all his decisions in the past , was a dental hygienist and unemployed and unmotivated Todd ( Sean Murray) spent most of his time watching tv in the apartment. Alex hired ambitious Casey ( Natalia Cigliuti), who was going to NYU Business School , to work on his Internet Music Web site and, in the second episode , helped her get an apartment in their building. Steve ( Winston J. Rocha), the building's shifty supervisor, had been using the space to store merchandise that his brother had stolen.

After only 3 weeks on the air, the UPN pulled the plug on The Random Years.

Tonight UPN begins two new series about characters in their 20's, and both seem like some middle-aged programmer's idea of what those crazy kids are up to. ''The Random Years'' follows three friends just out of college living in a New York loft: one guy is responsible, one loafs around all day, another is dumb, and really who cares? The series is not painfully bad, just by-the-numbers and predictable.
