(see this users gallery) No Time For Sergeants aired from September 1964 until September 1965 on ABC.
Comedy about a simpleminded but resourceful hillbilly who found new worlds to conquor in the air force. Airman Will Stockdale ( Sammy Jackson) didn't have much in the way of rank, but he always seemed to be " improving" things around Oliver Air Force Base, usually to the exasperation of the brass. In the opening episode, for example, he was assigned to permanent K.P. whereapon the food in the mess hall improved so much that the officers began eating there along with the enlisted men. When Col. Farnsworth ( Hayden Rorke) inspected the kitchen he discovered that Will had been trading with the local farmers for choice meat and produce-but it was what Will had been trading away that upset the colonel when he discovered equipment missing. Sgt King ( Harry Hickox) was Will's incredulous NCO, while Ben ( Kevin O'Neal) was his buddy and Millie ( Laurie Sibbald) his sexy girlfriend. Other regulars included Paul Smith as Captain Martin; Andy Clyde as Grandpa Jim Anderson, Millie's Grandfather; Michael McDonald as Pvt. Langdon; George Murdock as Captain Krupnick; Greg Benedict as Pvt. Blanchard; and Joey Tata as Pvt. Neddick.
Based on the novel by Mac Hyman, which was subsequently made into a hit play ( 1955), as a segment on the U.S. Steel Hour ( 1956) and a theatrical movie ( 1958), all starring Andy Griffith.
