The New Bob Cummings Show aired from October 1961 until March 1962 on CBS.
Shortly after the demise of Love That Bob, Bob Cummings returned in another situation comedy strikingly similar to the earlier one.
This time Bob played Bob Carson a suave, high-living and girl-crazy adventurer who made his living as a combination charter pilot and amateur detective. His assignments both with and without passangers took him all over the world. When his travels were short domestic hops close to his California base, Bob flew an aerocar, an unusual vehicle that could be used as an automobile or, when it's removable wing was attached , converted into a single-engine aircraft. When carrying passangers or traveling longer distances Bob used a more luxerous twin-engine plane. His operating motto was that he would do anything that wasn't " illegal, immoral, or underpaid" and, with his expensive lifestyle, keeping in the black financially demanded regular employment. Lionel ( Murvyn Vye) was his bodyguard/assistant and Hank ( Roberta Shore) the teenage daughter of the owner of the airstrip where Bob kept his planes. A tomboy who rode a motor scooter to the airstip everyday, she spent much of her time flirting with Bob and trying to get him to take her on assignments.
Broadcast on Thursday nights, the show was clobbered in the ratings by Dr. Kildare.
This sitcom was originally called The Bob Cummings Show which also was the original title of his previous series. Since confusion between the two did arise, beginning on December 28, 1961, the show was changed to The New Bob Cummings show.
