For Your Love aired from March 1998 until August 2002 on NBC and The WB.
The creator of Living Single, producer Yvette Lee Bowser, also produced this counterpart series, which might have been called " Living Together." It revolved around 3 couples in different stages of togetherness in the integrated upscale Chicago suburb of Oak Park, Illinois. The " Veterans" were Dean and Sheri ( D.W. Moffett, DeDe Pfeiffer), a white architect ( who had been a placekicker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), and a facialist, high school sweethearts who had been blistfully married for 4 years. Moving in next door were the " newlyweds" Mel and Melina ( James Lesure, Holly Robinson-Peete), an attorney and his psychiatrist wife, buppies ( black, upwardly mobile professionals), who were very much in love.Then theirwas the " not yet married" Mel's goofy commitment-phobic brother Reggie ( Edafe Blackmon), a restaurateur who could not bring himself to give a set of keys to his swank downtown apartment to girlfriend Bobbi(Tamala Jones), a divorced elementary school teacher. The 3 couples chatterd about life, love, and lust amid numerous bed scenes, tub scenes, and couch cuddles.
When For Your Love moved to The WB for the 1998-1999 season, Reggie had opened a new Cajun restaurant, Soulsstice, in Chicago. Dean and Sheri were trying to have ababy, but in the spring it was Melena who found out she was pregnant. In the fall of 1999, Bobbi moved in with Reggie finally, Melena was expecting a boy, and Mel was about to be made partner in his law firm. They wanted him to commit for 10 years, however, so instead he left to strike out on his own, setting up his practice in the same building in which Dean worked. Bobbi and Reggie almost broke up but, when the series returned in March 2001 after a 5 month hiatus, Reggie proposed; in mid April they were married, in a spur-of-the-moment ceremony. Dean and Sheri split up because she felt unfulfilled, and in the season finale Melena went into labor-after a 2 year pregnancy.
After another hiatus, For Your Love returned in January 2002, with Melena leaving the hospital with her new baby boy, Evan. Dean and Sheri had wild sex in the hospital while Melena was in labor, but they remained seperated. Reggie saw a therapist and admitted he had misgivings about having gotten married. The following week he had an opportunity to become part owner of a resort in the Carribean and , when Bobbi told him she didn't want to go, he went without her. Mel's Uncle Omar (Eugene Byrd), was hired to run the restaurant where he locked horns with Bobbi,who had been managing the place since Reggie's departure. At the end of February Melena returned to work and Dean and Sheri reconciled. When Uncle Omar threw a party at Bobbi's apartment while she was away, he got her evicted. In Mid-March Bobbi received her divorce papers from commitment-averse Reggie. This gave Omar the chance to make his move on her , but she wasn't interested despite having little success dating other guys. Soon after, Sheri announced she was pregnant and Dean tried to prepare himself for fatherhood.
In the series finale, after Dean and Sheri garage burned down, the gang remminisced about the times they had there, both good and bad. Unfortunately, the finale was never shown on The WB as the network abruptly pulled the series from the air during the summer of 2002.
