The adjustments parents must make when their children grow up and seek a life of their own was the subject of this comedy. Stanley Banks ( Leon Ames), was not quite ready to accept his daughter Kay's ( Myrna Fahay's), decision when she announced that she was engaged to Buckley Dunston ( Burt Metcalfe). Despite the enthusiasm of his wife , Ellie ( Ruth Warrick), his son Tommy( Rickie Sorenson), his maid Delilah ( Ruby Dandridge), and almost everyone else. Stanley was not happy about it at all. Episodes on the series involved Stanley's tribulations at getting used to his prospective son-in-law and the son-in-law's parents, Herbert and Doris ( Ransom Sherman, Lurene Tuttle), the planning and carrying out of the wedding ( Kay and Dunston were married in midseason), and learning to live without Kay around.
