(see this users gallery) The Famous Jett Jackson aired from October 1998 until June 2001 on The Disney Channel.
This popular kids' show
was about a black teenage celebrity who returned home to Wilsted, North Carolina, to try to live a normal life with his family and friends. Jett Jackson ( Lee Thompson Young) was a happy, handsome kid who starred in the network action series Silverstone as a secret agent for M.O.M. ( Mission Omega Matrix), an organization out to save the world from villians like Dr. Hypnoto and The Rat. Production of the show followed Jett to his hometown , but during the first season the focus was primarily on his offscreen exploits with his buddies J.B. and Kayla ( Ryan Sommers Baum, Kerry Duff) as he tried to balance fame and being a regular guy. Sheriff Wood ( Gordon Greene) was his dad, and Miz Coreta ( Montrose Higins), his wise grandma. Jules ( Melanie Nicholls-King), his actress mom who had divorced Wood and continued her career in Los Angeles sometimes showed up to cause problems. Beginning in the second season , scenes from Silverstone alternated with Jett's offscreen life , and his costar " Hawk" ( Lindy Booth) and fictional mentor Artemus( Nigel Shawn-Williams) were frequently seen. The contrast between Jett's on-screen heroics and offscreen screwups added to the humor.
Jett's world was thoroughly integrated both off screen and on ( J.B. and Hawk were white, Kayla and Artemus , black), and some of the stories were gentile lessons about race-relations , while others were simply about growing up.
