(see this users gallery) Ball Four was a half-hour sitcom that aired from September until October 1976.
Ball Four was truly " locker room comedy" since most of it's action took place in the locker room of a major-league baseball team, The Washington Americans. In the first episode pitcher Jim Barton ( played by Ex-Major-League baseball player Jim Bouton), informed his teammates and coaches that he was going to write a series of articles on baseball life " off the field." Manager Copogrossa ( Jack Somack), and most of the others were not very keen on the idea and neither was the viewing audience . The show folded after less then 2 months on the air. Ball Four was based on a book of the same title by former Major-League pitcher Jim Bouton. Not only did he star in a semi-autobiographical role in the series , he was also one of the writers. The " Ball Four" Theme was composed and sung by Harry Chapin.
