(see this users gallery) The Baileys Of Balboa aired from September 1964 until April 1965 on CBS.
Paul Ford portayed crusty old Sam Bailey , a widower who ran a small charter fishing boat called The Island Princess. The boat was based on a little island Sam owned in the middle of Balboa, California, an exclusive yachting community. Sam's unpretentious nature and dislike for fancy socirty trappings antagoninized the surrounding community, particularly the aristocratic Commander Wyntoon ( John Dehner). Sam's son Jim ( Les Brown, Jr) was infatuated with the Commander's daughter Barbara ( Judy Carne), however, and their romance forced a degree civility of the 2 fathers. Buck ( Sterling Holloway), was the forgetful first mate and Stanley ( Clint Howard), was an obnoxious little boy who was one of Sam's neighbors.
Clobbered in the rating's race by Peyton Place ( ABC) and Hazel ( NBC), The Baileys Of Balboa was one of 3 series developed by actor Keefe Brasselle, and sold to CBS without a pilot( The Cara Williams Show and The Reporter were the others).
