Has anyone ever seen Barbershop? That was a pretty funny film, wasn’t it? How about the sequel? That was a pretty descent film right? Well, how about the spin-off film Beauty Shop?
Alright, nobody saw it. Well in Beauty Shop, we were introduced to an young aspiring comedian (and he was still in Middle School, I believe) named Lil’ JJ. JJ has already made a name for himself with his appearances on Nickelodeon’s All That and Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, and films like Yours, Mine and Ours (also from Nickelodeon).
Finally in January of 2007, Nickelodeon decided to make JJ the star of his own TEENick (the program block, not the network) sitcom called Just Jordan. The show ran for 2 seasons, 29 episodes (the last three being made for a (possible) third season).
In this show Lil’ JJ plays Jordan Lewis a 16 year old, who moved to LA from Arkansas with his over-protective mother and and baby sister. They live with his grandfather who runs a diner and hangs out with his friends and cousin, while getting into some, say it with me now: “Whacky shenanigans!”
By the time Season 2 started airing, plans for a third season was already (by the way, that’s one of Jordan’s catchphrases) underway, sadly due to the Writers Strike, only 3 episodes were actually filmed. While the strike continued, Nickelodeon put the show’s production on hold. By February, Nickelodeon quietly canceled the series and added the episodes for season three to the season two line-up.
Just Jordan was just the same old “Fish Out Of Water” story, it could be an entertaining show for younger audiences, but to targeted for teens, teens who most likely got sick of watching the same story over and over again.
