Anna And The King ran from September 1972 until December 1972 on CBS.

It was in 1951, while preparing for his starring role in Rogedgers and Hammerstein's new musical The King And I, that Yul Brynner first shaved his head, to add realism to his portrayal. The role and the bald plate both became Brynner trademarks; he brought them to the film musical in 1956 and to this short-lived television comedy version in 1972. Based on Margaret Landon's novel, Anna And The King Of Siam, the story was set in the 1860's, and involved a young schoolteacher named Anna( Samantha Eggar), a widow with a 12 year old son Louis (Eric Shea), who had been hired by the King of Siam( Yul Brynner) to educate his loyal offspring. ( The King's many wives of whom Lady Thiang( Lisa Lu) was most important, had borne him a whole schoolful of children). There was much conflict between the autocratic king and the stubburn, strong-willed teacher, but there was also a developing respect and affection.

Despite lavish sets( including backdrops from the 1956 film The King And I ) and the presence of Brynner, the show went nowhere.
