(see this users gallery) When he was only 17, Colin Ferguson discovered his flair with the spoken word when he won a competition in public speaking in his hometown of Montreal, Canada.
He refined his speaking and performance skills while in college at Montreal's McGill University. He performed standup comedy and improv in clubs, and at the same time earned enough money to put himself through school. Here he was, old enough to work in these places but too young to order a drink.
A year later, he co-founded On The Spot, a Montreal-based improv comedy troupe, and with them, he made over 10 appearances in the Just For Laughs Festival. They went on to win the International Improv Festival, consistently besting teams from New York, London, New Zealand and Chicago.
Based on his experience in ensemble comedy work, Colin was selected from a pool of more than 2,000 applicants to become a founding member of the Detroit satellite of the renowned Second City ensemble.
He eventually left Second City to return to Montreal to finish his college degree, but still found time to continue to perform in clubs with his On The Spot colleagues six times a week. The troupe continued to be successful, and in 1994, received the award for Best North American Comedy Improv Group at the Just For Laughs Festival.
Colin played the lead in his first film, "Rowing Through," a Japanese/Canadian co-production. The attention garnered by that project brought him to Los Angeles. He continued to work in film and also began his television career.
Some of his television credits include the pilots, "Texas Graces" and "Family Business." He had a lead in the critically acclaimed Showtime series, "More Tales of the City." Colin also has a leading role in the Canadian miniseries, "Cover Me."
His other film work includes "The Opposite of Sex" and the upcoming independent film, "The Surprise Party."
Some of his extensive theater experience includes "The Siege," "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," "Hotel Room. Venice," "Rumors," "The Castle," "Macbeth," "Julius Caesar," "Oliver" and "Don't Drink the Water."
Colin, who now lives in the Los Angeles area, enjoys his involvement with the Virginia Avenue Project. This New York-based organization puts at-risk youth together with professional writers, performers and directors to create theater.
