Television audiences will see two sides of Thomas Gibson this year. They'll see the light side in his comedic role on "Dharma & Greg" and they'll see the dark side when, as Satan, he stars in the ABC movie, "Devil to Pay."

For the past three years, Thomas Gibson has played Dr. Daniel Nyland on the critically acclaimed medical drama, "Chicago Hope." Recently, he has also starred in the television movies, "The Inheritance," "The Protected Wife" and "Night Visitor."

Born in Charleston, South Carolina, Gibson has been performing since the age of 10 when he became active in children's theater. As a young actor in South Carolina, he performed and studied with the Footlight Players at the Dock Street Theater where he played such distinguished characters as Grumpy, Prince Charming and the Mad Hatter.

From 1979 to 1981, Gibson attended the College of Charleston. In the summer of 1980, he interned at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and was encouraged to apply to the Juilliard School. After winning a scholarship to the prestigious institution, Gibson pursued his studies and earned his degree.

Gibson made his professional stage debut in David Hare's "A Map of the World" at the New York Shakespeare Festival Public Theater in 1985. He later performed in "Twelfth Night," "The Two Gentlemen of Verona," "Macbeth," "Henry IV," a revival of Noel Coward's "Hay Fever" and Moliere's "The Miser."

Gibson began his film career in 1992 in Ron Howard's "Far and Away," with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. His additional film credits include "The Age of Innocence," "Love and Human Remains," "Barcelona," "Sleep With Me" and "Men of War."

On television, he has also appeared in Gore Vidal's "Lincoln," "The Kennedys of Massachusetts," and in Armistead Maupin's "Tales of the City" for PBS.

Gibson lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Christina.
