(see this users gallery) This Norman Lear Sitcom Ran During The 1976-1977 Season.
Age difference wasn't the only problem for 49-year-old political columnist Richard Barrington ( Richard Crenna) and his vivacious 23-year-old girlfriend Charley( Bernadette Peters), a free-lance photographer. They were also at opposite ends of the political spectrum: He was an archconservative and she was a liberated liberal. Love managed to keep them together despite the stormy outbursts that occurred when the subject of government and governmental policies came up.
The series was set in Washington D.C. Al ( J.A. Preston) was Richard's assistant; his girlfriend Lucy( Lee Chamberlain) was a reporter for CBS News. Charley's roommate Ginger( Judy Kahn) was involved with a married Congressman; Wayne Joplin( Jack Dodson) was a liberal senator and friend of Richard's who usually sided with Charley.
When Richard became a special assistant to President Carter, Ginger became his secretary and Carter aide Lanny Wolf( Michael Keaton) was added to the cast.
