"The best thing about playing the role of Lisa Miller," says Maura Tierney, "is that she is not just a wife or a girlfriend; she is an independent working woman, struggling to make it on her own. It's a refreshing change from the roles I've played in the past."
Born in Boston, the actress says she prefers living in New York to living in Los Angeles or any other city she's visited. Tierney has made a habit of travel: she and her husband drive cross-country for fun and adventure, and they've only missed two states so far (Kansas and Iowa).
She divides her working time between New York and Los Angeles, where "NewsRadio" is taped. Tierney, who has always been interested in the dramatic arts, attended New York University and Circle in the Square Theatre School.
The young actress had her first starring role on television in Norman Lear's comedy series "704 Hauser Street." Her additional credits include starring in the television films "Out of Darkness," "Student Exchange," "Flying Blind," "Crossing the Mob," "Growing Pains," "Family Ties" and NBC's "Law & Order."
Tierney is currently in production on the new Jim Carrey feature film, "Liar, Liar," in which she portrays Carrey's estranged wife. Her other feature-film credits include the recent "Primal Fear," in which she played Richard's Gere's legal assistant, "The Temp," "Fly by Night," "White Sands" and "The Linguini Incident."
Maura Tierney's birthday is February 3. |
