(see this users gallery) Holland Taylor is well known to television, film and stage audiences for her portrayals of women who are strong, independent, sometimes arrogant, but always funny. Regarding her newest role as gossip columnist Camilla Dane on "The Naked Truth," Taylor says, "Camilla is the ultimate sophisticated, 'been there, done that' woman. What makes her fun is that she has a 10-year-old child locked inside her -- and that child escapes on a regular basis. Last season, Camilla was the boss at the Comet and she got used to being in charge. Now that Les Polonsky is in charge, I'm looking forward to seeing Camilla assert herself in new and unexpected ways."
Born in Philadelphia, Taylor received her B.A. degree from Bennington College in Vermont. A few months after arriving in New York City, she made her Broadway debut in "The Devils" with Anne Bancroft, followed by appearances in such Off-Broadway plays as "Colette" and "Fashion." She also had a co-starring role in A.R. Gurney's Obie Award-winning "Children." Among her numerous Broadway credits are "Butley" with Alan Bates, "Breakfast with Les and Bess" and "Murder Among Friends." She also took over the starring role from Eve Arden in the legendary flop, "Moose Murders," which she is particularly proud of having survived.
On the big screen, Taylor gained recognition as Kathleen Turner's editor in "Romancing the Stone" and the sequel, "Jewel of the Nile." Her other feature-film roles include "The Favor," "To Die For," "Steal Big, Steal Little," "How to Make an American Quilt" and Woody Allen's "Alice." Currently, Taylor can be seen in the role of Michelle Pfeiffer's mother in "One Fine Day," which also stars George Clooney. She recently completed filming her role as the mother of the heroine in the action comedy "George of the Jungle."
On television, Taylor was a series regular in "The Powers That Be," "Bosom Buddies," "Beacon Hill," "Harry" and "Me and Mom" and had a recurring role in "Diagnosis: Murder." She also appeared as the villainous Denise Cavanaugh in the daytime drama "The Edge of Night." Taylor currently resides in Los Angeles. Her birthday is January 14. |
