Darryl Sivad segued from a successful career as a photographer to life as a stand-up comic, then on to acting in films and television. A native of Detroit, Sivad developed a love of photography in high school. While attending the Center for Creative Studies, he received an offer to work with famed photographer Richard Avedon in New York. He also worked with Anthony Barboza and set up his own photography studio.
Sivad got into stand-up comedy by mistake when he signed up for what he thought was a class in writing for sitcoms. It turned out to be a writing and performing workshop in stand-up comedy, and Sivad enjoyed it so much he decided to move to California in 1986 to pursue a career as a comedian. His performance on shows such as "The George Burns Comedy Week," "Star Search" and "The Late Show with Joan Rivers" led to an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson."
With encouragement from director Rob Reiner, Sivad turned to acting and was cast in the series "Homeroom." He also appeared in guest-starring roles in "Friends," "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," "Sisters," "Living Single," "ROC" and "Dream On."
Sivad's feature-film work includes roles in "Talkin' Dirty After Dark" and "Fear of a Black Hat." He also appeared on stage in Los Angeles in productions of "Uncle Al's BBQ" at the Regency West Theatre and "Culture Shock" at the Theatre of Arts.
Sivad says that his character on "The Naked Truth," T.J., the nattily dressed fashion editor, "has always taken great pains with his personal appearance, but felt he's been overlooked by management. With his new promotion to fashion editor, T.J. feels that he's finally getting the recognition he deserves."
Sivad currently resides in the Los Angeles area. His birthday is March 25. |
