Poster: Stuck In The '70's
(see this users gallery) Good Time Harry aired from July until September 1980 on NBC.
Harry Jenkins ( Ted Bessell) was a sportswriter for the San Francisco Sentinel, whose dates with beautiful women tended to get in the way of his assignments for the paper. His extracurricular activities did not endear him to his editor, Jimmy Hughes ( Eugene Roche), who had once fired him because of it. Harry's skill at his craft got him his job back, but his continuing playboy escapades made for an adversary relationship between him and his boss. Sally ( Ruth Manning) was Hughes's secretary; Carol ( Marcia Strassman), a sympathetic fellow reporter; Martin ( Steven Peterman), the enthusiastic young copy boy; and Billie ( Jesse Welles), a coctail waitress. Living next door to Harry, and jealous of his success with beautiful women, was Stan ( Barry Gordon), a rather bland insurance salesman who was always trying to get Harry to fix him up with dates. One of Harry's favorite haunts was Danny's Bar, a watering hole very popular with San Francisco writers.Lenny ( Richard Karron) was Harry's favorite bartender at the establishment.

Picks and Pans Review: Good Time Harry
NBC (10-11 p.m. ET)
Ted Bessell, once Mario Thomas' befuddled boyfriend in That Girl, returns in this series pilot as a brilliant but helplessly libidinous sportswriter preoccupied with scoring. Marcia (Welcome Back, Kotter) Strassman is fine as a reporter, and the show is often better than its irritating laugh track.
