Barefoot in the Park aired from September 1970 to January 1971 on ABC.
The play, written by Neil Simon, was a hit. The movie starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford, was also a success. But the television series was a flop.
This black version concerned 2 young newlyweds, Paul and Corie Bratter ( Scoey Mitchell, Tracey Reed)who were trying to establish their life on a shoestring budget in New York.Their home was a one-room walk-up apartment on the top floor of an old brownstone. At least they had each other.Paul was a lawyer, an associate at Kendricks, Keene & Klein.The couple also had to contend with Corie's busybody mother Mabel ( Thelma Carpenter),a domestic for a Park Avenue family, Mabel's persistent suitor Honey (Nipsey Russell),proprietor of Honey Robinson's Pool & Billiard Emporium, Paul's boss Mr. Kendricks (Harry Holcombe), and the bumbling building superintendent Mr. Valasquez ( Vito Scotti).
The series was beset with production problems from the beginning and folded when Scoey Mitchell was fired after twelve episodes.
