Tim Moore was the First African-American to achieve fame on television. He was without a doubt the biggest star on The Amos 'N' Andy Show. He was born on December 9, 1887 in Rock Island, Illinois. He had gained fame as a stage comedian from 1899 until the 1940's. He had retired to Rock Island until he was coaxed back to star on this show. He died on December 13, 1958 of turberculosis.
