(see this users gallery) This was the first Buck Rogers tv series. It ran on ABC from April 1950-January 1951.
This was the first tv version of the famous hero of comic books, radio, and movie serials, also known as Buck Rogers in the 25th century. As in the other versions Buck alone was responsible for the safety of the universe; aided by various pseudo-scientific gadgets, he always managed to outwit such intersteller villians as Killer Kane. Lou Prentis played Buck's beautiful companion Wilma; Harry Sothern his ally, the brilliant Dr. Hauer; and Harry Kingston his martian crony, Barney. His home base was Niagra, capital of the world. Handsome Ken Dibbs first played the role of Buck on television with suitable derring-do, but was nevertheless replaced after a few months by Robert Pastene. Production was on the cheap side, though perhaps not as cheap as for Dumonts long running hit Captain Video which Buck Rogers preceded on Saturdays for a time. Buck Rogers was also seen in later years as a local series, consisting of edited versions of the movie serals starring Buster Crabbe in the title role. |
