(see this users gallery) Howard McNear was born on January 7, 1905 in Los Angelas, California. He had gained fame for playing the role of Doc Adams on the long running radio program Gunsmoke and in 1961 he was cast as Floyd The Barber on the Andy Griffith Show. During his 3rd year on the show, McNear suffered a massive stroke which left him partially parralysed and after this Floyd was only photographed in close-up, sitting or propped up by a brace. Mcnear left the show entirely in 1967 after the seventh season. He died on January 3, 1969. Though long gone, Howard McNears legacy of Floyd The Barber lives on. He will never be forgotten. |
