Hennesey aired from September 1959 until September 1962 on CBS.
Stationed at a naval base in San Diego, California, Lt. Chick Hennesey ( Jackie Cooper),was a young medical officer who treated the base personnel and their families.
He worked for crusty Capt. Shafer( Roscoe Karns), who during the course of the series would be promoted to Admiral ,and had attractive Martha Hale ( Abby Dalton), for an understanding and romantically interested nurse. Their romance blossomed and they became engaged, with the wedding taking place in the episode that aired on May 7, 1962.
The biggest "character" in the entire medical department was Harvey Spencer Blair - III ( James Komack), a young naval dentist whose society background and financial independence grated on all concerned. Blair was always looking for angles and gimmicks, much in the style of Ernie Bilko in The Phil Silvers Show, but, unlike Ernie, fancied himself a real ladies man.
Hennesey was one of the very few sitcoms of its time that did not employ a laugh track.
