Poster: Stuck In The '70's
(see this users gallery) Original caption: Though Marion Lorne, who portrays the charmingly scatterbrained Mrs. Gurney on the Mr. Peepers show (NBC-TV, Sunday, 7:30 P.M. EST), was comparatively unfamiliar to American audiences prior to appearing in the Wally Cox program, she has been a star of the London stage for more than 25 years. Born near Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, Marion Lorne received her formal education at Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, PA., and even there she knew she wanted to be an actress more than anything in the world, but she never dreamed her first success in the theater would come in a foreign city. Shortly after her marriage to playwright Walter Hackett, her took her to England for a vacation and they remained there for thirty years. She became a popular comedy star, appearing in hit after hit written for her by Hackett. In 1942, they returned to the U.S. for their first visit in three. |
