The Bradys aired from February until March 1990 on CBS.
Most of the original cast of The Brady Bunch reassembled for this bizarre hour comedy-drama sequel which was laden with the worries of the 1990's. CBS thoughtfully scheduled the show in the same time slot (Fridays at 8 p.m.)that the Brady Bunch had had for its last three seasons. Unfortunately it was now going up against ABC's new generation of family sitcoms that aired on TGIF.
In this series, Mike ( Robert Reed)had opened his own architectural firm, Carol ( Florence Henderson)was now selling real estate and four of the six kids were married. Jan and her college professor husband Philip(Eve Plumb, Ron Kulhman), unable to conceive , had just adopted a young Korean girl named Patty ( Valerie Ick); obstetrician Greg and his wife Nora ( Barry Williams, Caryn Richman)had one son named Kevin ( Jonathan ( Taylor Thomas) Weiss); Marcia and her salesman husband Wally ( Leah Ayres, Jerry Houser)had 2 children named Jessica and Mickey ( Jaclyn Bernstein, Michael Melby); disc jockey Cindy ( Susan Olsen) had just gotten serious with her older widowed boss Gary (Ken Michelman); and businessman Peter ( Christopher Knight)was a worried playboy in the age of AIDS. The first crisis the family had to face involved Bobby ( Michael Lookinland), a race car driver and newly married to Tracey (Martha Quinn), who had just been paralyzed from the waist down as a result of an accident. Meanwhile Marcia and her family moved in with Mike and Carol after her husband had lost his job. Marcia then battle alcoholism. Mike meanwhile was elected to the City Council. Alice ( Ann B. Davis)was still around. She had married Sam the butcher and was no longer the Bradys housekeeper. With all the drama going on, people wondered if this was the prototypical happy TV family of the 1970's?
The Bradys was launched in the wake of the success of the 1988 TV movie A Very Brady Christmas and was the fourth series starring the "family that won't go away." Despite the presence of almost the entire original cast (Maureen McCormick was the only one missing), the downbeat themes( even though the show did have a laugh track at times) doomed this incarnation to the quickest cancellation yet.
