Introduction:
McHale, Parker, Binghamton and the rest of the crew of PT-73 are back for another "tour of duty" on DVD. "McHale's Navy" stars Ernest Borgnine, Tim Conway, and Joe Flynn. Supporting cast includes Gavin McLeod. You can now get the Complete Second Season of the hit ABC sitcom, from Shout! Factory on DVD.
Memorable Episodes / Notable Guest Stars:
Some of the more memorable episodes include "The Binghamton Murder Plot" in which Binghamton believes the crew is out to kill him. "The Happy Sleepwalker" is the one in which Happy Haines starts to sleepwalk so the Captain decides to relieve him of his duties. "A Letter for Fuji" in which Fuji, McHale's friendly Japanese friend has a letter he wants posted back to his girl at home. "Who'll Buy My Sarongs?" in which McHale's men are split into two groups to oppose each other and try to win the affection of the nurses in their sarong competition. "The Great Impersonation" in which due to his uncanny resemblance to an important British General, Parker is chosen for a special mission, as a decoy to divert the attention of assassins, in New Caledonia. And more!
Memorable guest stars this season include George Kennedy, Jane Dulo, Bernie Kopell, Bill Quinn, Joyce Bulifant, Sandra Gould and more.
Packaging:
The main box art is once again in full color and features the entire cast. The back of the box features three-color photos and a good description of the series and the set itself. The packaging is slip sleeve. Slip sleeve is when there are individual cases inside the cardboard box and they hold the discs for the set. Included in the set is a pull out pamphlet that gives details on the episodes and what discs they are on.
There are three slip sleeve cases that each features one of the stars of the show. Case 1 features Ernest Borgnine. Case 2 features Joe Flynn and Case 3 features Tim Conway.
The main menu is identical to the cover art. It features the entire cast, with a bamboo movie screen on the left hand side playing clips from the series. There is a "Play All" option, as well as an "Episodes" option, which takes you to a sub-menu that lists the episodes. On Discs 1 and 2 there is a direct link to the bonus feature available on both discs. The theme song loops in the background.
Video and Audio Quality:
Once again, the episode quality isn't really an issue. It is sometimes a bit grainy, a bit fuzzy but honestly, that has to be expected on a show like this. The audio itself offered no problems. Each episode appears to be uncut, they are all well over 25 minutes and there are chapter skips available.

Final Comments:
This set is another solid, good release by Shout! Factory. I'm impressed as always. The set itself is in great shape and the episodes are in good shape. It was also nice to get another bonus feature. Many studios are dropping the ball on them but Shout! never fails to come through. I hope that we get to Season 3 very soon! We should in early 2008 or even earlier maybe.
