10/09/12: The Courtship of Eddie's Father - The Complete Second Season is now available from Warner Archive via WBShop.com .
Hitting on all cylinders thanks to an in-sync crew in front and behind the camera, the sophomore season of this ground-breaking situation ‘dramedy’ takes on birth, marriage, crime, ghosts, poverty, women’s liberation and more. This season features also both an unconventional un-birthday and an un-Christmas tale. Although different from other shows of its era, The Courtship of Eddie’s Father never loses sight of its heart — the very special friendship shared by widowed father Tom (Bill Bixby) and his son Eddie (Brandon Cruz). James Komack (Norman), Miyoshi Umeki (Mrs. Livingston), and Kristina Holland (Tina Rickles) continue to aid the Corbett boys in their adventures, while Jodie Foster (in a recurring role), Will Geer (as Eddie’s grandfather), and Suzanne Pleshette (as a potential paramour for Tom) make notable guest performances in this 3-Disc, 24-Episode Collection. The second season of the beloved TV classic shines so bright it attracted a very special guest star – real-life NASA titan Gordon “Gordo” Cooper!

This newly remastered edition finds Eddie, Tom and Mrs. Livingston looking crisper and cleaner than ever. An instant family classic, The Courtship of Eddie's Father shared little with the 1963 film on which it was nominally based, opting instead to break new ground on television. Creator James Komack (also seen on screen as supporting character Norman Tinker) chose to make the relationship between father (Bill Bixby as the widowed magazine executive, Tom Corbett) and grade-school son (Brandon Cruz as his son Eddie) the central focus of the show. As epitomized by the Harry Nilsson penned and performed signature theme song, that relationship - in turns sober, sweet, and silly - was something not seen before on TV comedies or dramas, a nurturing father figure who treats his offspring with equal measures of love, respect, and understanding. In short, a parent who treats his child as an equal. Not to be forgotten are the contributions of acting great Miyoshi Umeki, playing housekeeper Mrs. Livingston. Among the first season guest stars to keep an eye out for in this 4-Disc, 26 Episode Collection are a young Jodie Foster, Cicely Tyson, once and future Star Trek star Diana Muldaur, and Martha Scott.

Here's an update Brandon recently posted on 02/06/04 on the message board:
It has been a busy time for me since I last posted. I dislocated my shoulder in England while performing with Dead Kennedys.
I finished the tour 5 days later, came home, promptly quit the band and went to work on the Roseanne show.
The show was cancelled after 4 months so I went to work at MTV on Viva La Bam, and now I am at the Discovery Channel
and editing American Chopper. My wife is as beautiful as ever and my children are getting bigger and smarter
every day. I have a few projects in the works, two of which are Eddie's Father projects. I will let you all know as soon as I
hear more. It's a weird business, and it takes a long time to get anything done. I wish you all health and happiness. Thanks
for visiting this site and for remembering the show. It means a lot to those of us who made it.
RCA Victor Japan has recently released a CD of her early recordings in Japan (most if which are sung in English) called "The Early Days Of Nancy Umeki". It can be ordered as an import.
From TVShowsOnDVD.com After releasing 3 single-disc DVDs back in 2000-2001, Rhino informs us that they are now returning to the world of My Favorite Martian and exploring it more thoroughly. As in season-set thoroughly! Look for "My Favorite Martian - Season 1," which consists of 37 episodes starring Ray Walston and Bill Bixby, on DVD in May. We don't know yet if these will be delivered in the original black-and-white, but based on Rhino's previous releases we aren't worried about this. I'm confident we'll see the first two seasons in black-and-white, and the third season in color, just as they should be. Stay tuned, though, and we'll have complete details for you just as soon as they are available.

Zak Orth has joined the WB Network's "Eddie's Father," which has cast 10-year-old Josh Hutcherson as Eddie. Nicole Bilderback has reportedly been cast as Jenna Livingston "Livingston," nanny to Eddie. She is young, hip and her relationship with Tom (Ken's character) is more of a best friends/brother-sister type rather than an employer/employee type. It has not been placed on the WB fall schedule, so perhaps it could be a mid-season replacement sometime in 2003-2004.
