Gary Coleman Story

Background info:

On July 30, 1998; Gary Coleman alledgedly punched a woman (Tracy Fields) several times after he had generously signed her an autograph on a piece of paper and she gave it back to him and asked him to write a little more on it. He told her she had an attitude and she made a rude remark about his acting career saying something like that's why your a child actor and not an adult actor. The incident occurred at a Hawthorne, California uniform store where Mr. Coleman was buying a bullet-proof vest for his security job at a local mall. An August 25th court hearing was set. He pleaded not guilty today to misdemeanor assault and battery charges. Coleman, 30, wasn't in Inglewood Municipal Court for the arraignment, and instead had his attorney enter his plea. He faces a $1 million lawsuit.

2/5/99 Coleman Pleads No Contest - (INGLEWOOD) -- Actor Gary Coleman's assault trial in Inglewood comes to an abrupt end when the former child star pleads NO contest to an amended charge of disturbing the peace. Coleman made the plea just as the case was going to the jury. He had been facing a misdemeanor battery charge for punching a woman in a Hawthorne uniform store. The judge sentenced Coleman to 90-days in jail, but suspended the sentence. He also put the 30-year-old Coleman on probation for one-year... fined him... and ordered him to stay away from Tracy Fields. Coleman must also complete 52 anger management sessions by next year. In the meantime, Fields has filed a one-Million-dollar civil suit against him.
